There is a book out there, One and Done with large scale blocks so all the figuring is done for you. I added borders to one of them to make it a bit bigger.

Sure. Here's the EQ7 version. If I were doing it I'd cut the squares for the QSTs a bit larger, say 13 1/4 - 13 1/2", then trim the four-patches to 12 1/2" after sewing and pressing.

As an FYI I'd like to add that any 36" nine-patch is just a group of 12" blocks sewn together. I'm glad to post from EQ (with credit) the cutting directions for any. Just trying to be "empowering" to any who might appreciate that sort of information......

Quiltmaker, the EQ estimate of yardage for one 36" Ohio Star block as shown is 3/4 yd pink, 3/8 yd blue, 3/4 yd red. Those are based on 40" usable width of fabric and no loss in squaring the ends. Personally if I were buying fabric for it I'd start get one yard and half yard cuts. There will be some left over but that would be true in either case since you can't cut four of the large squares from a single regular width of fabric.

Just recently received an email from AcuQuilt with their "Hip To Be Square" and it caught my eye. I think you could make the units finish at 4" and then add borders and end up close to 36" quilt.
click the left and right arrows at the bottom for more photos including their EQ draft pic. I do not own a GO! Cutter and don't plan to - but I became a facebook friend of theirs hoping to win one.. and now get their emails which are sometimes inspiring.
This pattern appealed to me b/c it's made up with HST's and QSTs which are something I know how to make Good luck collecting some new 36" patterns KC!
Bozie, I have EQ7 too - but haven't quite mastered how to use it yet. Lost the book and each time I sit down to use it get too frustrated. I read on the COF retreat thread where there were several who were asking for a class on using it - perhaps if you ever go to a COF you could teach us!?
Bonnie, I don't see any retreats in my future. And I'd probably be a lousy teacher anyway!! I can and would gladly explain anything I know to anyone who asks but the thought of putting together a coherent class to teach a group of people something as broad as EQ7 use is way beyond me!
The program does have help files and even some videos built into it. And the EQ website has a tech support group you can email or even phone.
