Sorry I am away from my computer and can't post the photo for y'all. Feel free to add a photo of your blocks to this thread. Thanks!!
2008 Floral 9-Patch Swap~~ Thank you EvelynB for posting your photo’s that got this swap going! I think our last 9-patch swap was in early 2006, so the timing for another is perfect! I know this looks like a lot of guidelines, but I just want to ensure we are all thinking along the same lines… 1. We will be swapping 9-Patch blocks that are 12.5 inches unfinished. Please use the photo for fabric placement. Use only White-on-white, greens and florals for your blocks. ▪ Think spring (!) in your fabric selections~ grass green, leaf green etc., no neon or dark, dull greens please. ▪ For the florals; medium to large scale flowers please, make sure they are clear colors and the flowers measure approx 1.5 inches or more. Please use florals that have a light background to them~ to keep the airy, spring & summer theme. This is not the swap for those small calico-type floral prints. ▪ Use white-on-white fabric for the white squares, no muslin please. As long as each block has the same WOW for the 4 squares, it doesn't matter how many WOW's you use in a set, or all the same in every set. 2. Fabrics must be good quality 100% quilter’s cottons. Please send the quality of fabric you would like to receive. No thin, loosely woven fabrics! No solids, no homespuns or flannels please. 3. Please use your best judgement in washing/not washing your fabrics. Test a little piece if you are unsure of colorfastness. Since some swappers will be working with scraps that they might not have washed to begin with, I won’t require that all fabrics be washed, but they need to be properly pressed and prepared. *All fabrics must have the selvages removed before cutting/sewing the block. 4. The 9-patch is a very easy pattern. Beginners are welcome to swap! If you need help with fabric preparation, cutting, sewing accurately, we all would be happy to help you! Please follow the diagram and photo’s below using the same floral fabric for the 4 squares in the block. ~~Please be sure to measure, press and trim off any threads prior to sending in your blocks. Also use a sticky note, label, masking tape etc to label each of your blocks with your board name. 5. No more than 8 (for those who only want to make that many) or 12 (for those who want more) blocks of the same floral fabric. We want to have a nice variety and try to avoid duplicates. (If we get a lot of sign-ups, I will increase this to 12,I just did! 6. Place your completed blocks in a large ziplock bag. Include a card with my name and address on one side, and yours on the other. Just in case anything gets torn open in the mail. 7. Blocks need to be in my hot little hands by August 15th . I won’t hold up the swap waiting to hear if you have mailed or not. You need to let me know. You will have both my email and phone number and I expect swappers to be courteous to all in the swap by keeping us all informed of your progress, mailing etc. I will also do my part to make sure everyone has my address and is informed. This is very important for an enjoyable, smooth swap ladies! 8. My post office will only allow me to send fabric in tyvek or padded envelopes. Apparently the new flat rate mailers say on them ‘for documents only’ and they will no longer allow fabric to be sent in them. I can pick up the free Priority envelopes from my PO if you want to use those, otherwise you will need to enclose a tyvek or padded envelope for your return squares. Please address your return envelope or include a mailing label for me to put on. 9. Please include enough postage in stamps to get your package back to you. (if you prefer to send cash, I will get your change back to you if there is any) No metered stickers ~no exceptions. Also include an extra dollar if you would like me to add delivery confirmation and to be used for any postage discrepancies. 10. PM me to sign up and include your real name, address and email address, and your phone number. I will send an email back to you with my info. Please make sure it is an email address that you check regularly as I will also use email for group updates. Any questions? Post them here, or send me a PM... Whoohoo!~ let’s have some fun with florals! Swappers; 1. EvelynB 2. VivianMA 3. KC1930 4. Jane_Kiwi 5. Musiclady 6. DyedGrey 7. QuiltTX 8. Shelbydayle 9. WAAAAA I am still confused. My excuse is, "I am left handed and old"
I have 9 diff fabrics and put the like fabrics together and now I have 9 little piles which total 24 blocks. Now how do I make up 3 sets?? I do not have any of the fabric left that I used for the blocks. |
|||
|
|
|
How many of the same fabric do you have? If you have eight, there is 1 set (if you are making sets of 8). You just can't have the same fabric in 2 different sets, but you can have 1 entire set of the same fabric.
So, if you had nine blocks of the same fabric and are making sets of 8 - you wouldn't be able to use 1 of those blocks, but you could use the other 8 to make up 1 set. Again, I don't mean to speak for CBQ, but I saw the post and since I started the question, I feel like I should try to help clear it up. Tell me to be quiet if I am making matters worse!! ML |

Also, if you have 9 of one, and 3 of another, that would make a set of 12. But, if you have any extra after that - you could not use them in another set.

OK thanks ML . I think you explained it well enuff. Let me see, I can use 4 of each times 2 in one set as long as I do not use the same in another set?? I have enuff for 2 sets of 8.
Oh my, I don't have enuff fabric to make other sets |
|||
|
The way I understood it you could have sets of 8 all exactly the same or you can use scraps up so you can have a set of 8 that might be 3 sunflower blocks, 2 pansy blocks, 1 rose, 1 more rose block in a different fabric, and 1 iris block. That means you can use all 24 of the ones you have done. Someone better tell me now if that's not the case, lol...

I think that if you are making the 8-block sets you can have up to 8 blocks with the same floral fabric. If you are making the 12-block sets you can have up to 12 blocks with the same florals.
I think. |

Think of your "sets" as foreign countries, and your block fabrics as citizens. You have either 8 or 12 citizens in each country. The same citizen fabric cannot live in 2 different countries. But each country can have all different citizens.

LOL, Dyed Grey, foreign countries?
Ok, quiltnanny, just send them all in, I'll swap all I can and if you have too many of one fabric to swap, I'll send them back ok? I don't want to confuse you any further. Thanks for helping to explain Musiclady and Jane_Kiwi! You are both right. |

Hey, I thought it was a very ingenious analogy ....

I loved the analogy dyed grey. It gave me a good chuckle.

Sleep? Maybe that is done in those foreign countries Dyed Grey was talking about.
Plenty of time to join in the fun Saved! |

Of course, I should talk about sleep. I work overnights, and have to sleep during the day. That's fine when the lawn company is not around two days in a row because it started raining yesterday when they were half thru. I have decided for safety's sake not to cut fabric after work. Only after I get up in the afternoon. Sounds crazy but it works.

I just finished a set of 12. I thought I had more floral fabric, but when I started looking at it I realized the flowers were too small or the background was too dark. But I was able to make 12 - I hope they are ok. I will try to get them in the mail sometime next week.
I really like this block - especially with the WOW and green center. Musiclady |

Woohoo, DG, I have 2 countries and each country has its own 12 citizens. Some of the citizens are twins and a few have triplets. LOL

|
kjs~ are you ok there? I heard Omaha got hammered with storms!?
Musiclady, I had to 'support the economy' because some of my florals were too small too. Yeah, quiltnanny, so glad to read you got it all figured out! Have a happy day ladies! |
