Yep UGH. I hope someone has the fabric for you.

Kerosene is oily and smelly. I found a couple of sites for cleaning the fabric. You have to clean the oil...then work on the smell. One site said to air dry - do not put in the dryer until you are sure all the oil is out of the fabric.

One thing I learned from DM was to get nasty diesel fuel and grimy truck grease out of clothing was to use some of the hand cleaner the men used...like Go-Jo, Fast Orange, etc. (I used a specific brand but can't remember what it was.) We would smear that on the clothes, scrub it in good, then toss in the washer. That stuff took out some of the blackest grease.

Just wondering if dry cleaning would help...

Sherry,
Thanks for the information which I will definitely hang on to. Unfortunately DS tried to "clean it up" and it's now too late. Frown

Hancocks the chain fabric store, not Hancocks of Paducah, right? Can you give the maker or pattern # info from the selvage? Did your store do any kind of stock search at other stores? It sure is pretty...sorry it got ruined. Frown

If all else fails, there's a website missingfabrics.com where you can post a picture & request the amount you're looking for.

Yes, Hancocks the chain store. There is no information on the fabric? They didn't do a search. I will go back and ask them too. Smile

Try the washing again using Sherry's suggestions. You've got nothing to lose. There ought to be something that will take it out. Good luck.

If you press JoAnn's, I've seen them produce a notebook from under the cutting counter. There are thumbnails of all the fabrics they normally stock, and the necessary numbers under them to do a system-wide search. I've seen JoAnn's make a phone call on the spot to try to locate the fabric for someone. Maybe Hancocks can, too? The Christmas rush is over, so that might be in your favor. Good luck!

Okay, I am going to cry now... The fabric was deemed a "fire hazard" and torched. I am going to KILL someone..... not really.... breathe in...breathe out.......

MEN! Gotta love them! Oh well, I will find something else pretty to use.

OH, I found out that you can call your local hancock and give them the item number and they can check for it. So, if anyone finds some, I'd be happy to pay you a finders fee!

Oops -- never mind -- your 6:03 post wasn't there when I opened the window to reply & suggested calling H's customer service.

Sandra, what a bummer to have that happen and then the "wonderful, considerate" help from the family. I hope you can find an even better substitute---and they pay for it! or at least in part.

I have used the Go-Jo to get grease out of clothes and it has never changed the fabric color. It has even removed the grease stain after the item has run though the drier, even more than once. Now if I have "greased" my clothes, I just smear some Go-Jo on it and toss it in the laundry. When I get around to that load I just toss it in and let it go as I normally would. Works great.

QW- yep, I know....Funny thing is in reality, hubby pays for most of my fabric anyway! I work some, and do the alterations and such but the lions share of our income comes from him. I know they were just being helpful. Smile

Go-Jo and similar products can be found at auto supply stores, wal-mart, similar stores.

It's sold in small plastic tubs with a screw lid (a bit smaller than a 1 pound "butter" bowl) and it's a soft white paste.

I'm telling ya...that black yucky grease off a 5-wheel (where the trailer hooks to the truck) gets full of dirt and grime too. Granted the go-jo type stuff won't get rid of all greasy stains but it did a fairly decent job.
