Hi Ladies!
Just wanted to ask for a little help with some recipes to take to parties and potlucks for the Holidays.
I am tired of mine. Thanks! Yummy
Here's one of my stand-bys:

Tortilla Rolls

Flour Tortilla
Cream Cheese
Green Chiles (canned) drained
Deli Ham

Spread cream cheese over tortilla
add green chiles thin layer
add slices of ham to cover green chiles
roll up
cut in 1/2 inch segments
Place on serving plate rolled side up

You can use just about any thing for the fillings.

This one seems to please everyone. I'm a no fuss cook and love simple recipes.

Crab and Cream Cheese Dip

1 lb Pollock crab flavored chunks
Bottle of Seafood Sauce
1 C (or there abouts) finely diced celery
8 oz Cream Cheese or Cream Cheese Spread (softened)
Small can shrimp (Optional)
Assortment of crackers

Finely chop crab chunks, and shrimp, if used.
Mix crab chunks, shrimp, celery and about 1/2 - 3/4 bottle of seafood sauce together. Add more sauce if you like. Make sure everything is well coated.
Spread cream cheese in center of large plate, top with crab mixture. Surround with crackers.

Dig in!!!!

I found this one this past Spring and black olive lovers won't leave it alone.

8 oz Chive and onion Cream Cheese spread, softened
Can of giant (large) black olives, drained

Put a couple tbsps softened cream cheese into plastic sandwich bag and cut one corner off.

Squeeze cream cheese into black olives.

That's it. Great finger food.

You can also do the same thing with a cucumber.

Cut cuke in half width wise and core center from it. Fill with cream cheese and then slice.

Here's a dessert. This recipe was a winner in the Dayton Daily News recipe contest. It is like Magic Cookies Bars for the Holidays!

Coconut Cranberry Bars

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups vanilla or white chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups dried cranberries
1 14oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup pecan halves

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Press into 9 x 13 pan. (I line my pan with foil - lifts out after cooling and makes it easier to cut)
In a medium bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Spread over the crust. Bake for 25 - 28 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Let cool completely before cutting.

I took mini pretzel turtles to retreat in Odenville. The girls seemed to like them because I had many requests for recipe. So easy, simple and fast to make. http://www.glorioustreats.com/...y-and-delicious.html Variation: I used mini twisty pretzels only because I did not know about square ones, melt Rolos for 4 minutes, harden in freezer for 10 minutes. Everything from start to finish done on a cookie sheet. I put as many pretzels and Rolos as I can on one cookie sheet. The biggest amount of time is spent unwrapping Rolos. Can do that in front of TV...lol

Anyone want my recipe for Praline Pecan Cake, let me know. I have copy on my other pc that I can share. It is easier to make than the mini pretzel.

Oh if anyone tries the recipe for chocolate peppermint rice krispies on the Glorious Treats blog b4 me, let me know how it turns out. I have only made the awesome delish chocolate peanut butter rice krispie bars that I usually make for family reunions.

I will definitely be making the stuffed black olives. Black olives are a fave of my granddaughters.

califshrimp thanks for starting holiday foods thread.

Susan

ETA: Realized I had already shared Pecan Praline Cake recipe in another post. So downloaded to my new laptop to share with y'all.
Brand name of cake box ingredients and icing is BC.

Easy and yummy:

Cream Cheese - put the whole block on a pretty plate

Hot Pepper Jelly (I prefer the red) - pour or scoop over the cream cheese

Dip crackers into the cheese, or be civilized and use a spreader.

Ellen your recipe is a good one. I have used b4. It is SO EASY....lol and SO GOOD. Big hit. My variation is to use J-a-r-d-I-n-e-r-e Peach Salsa. I am going to try yours with the pepper jelly. You know I think I have some jalapeno jelly. Mhhhhhm and it is green too. Thanks for heads up.

Ewwwww, pretzels!!!! That reminded me of an original recipe by a friend of mine.

Pretzel Dip

Use equal parts of:
Sour cream
Cream cheese
Mayonnaise

Add: Finely chopped kosher pickles, to taste

Optional: chopped onions and garlic

Mix well, 'til creamy smooth. Chill before serving.

The first time I had this, I was in love. So much so that the second time I went to the friend's place for a bbq, she had my own serving dish made for me. That is bad.

I've done the cream cheese pepper jelly dish. Cut the cream cheese in half and separate the two squares and put red pepper jelly on one and green on the other--very festive looking.

sewandsew--that cheese and potatoes sounds yummy--(in fact they ALL do), but how is it served?? as a breakfast side??a sort of dip?? I am looking for something "different" to seve as a "snack" for a group. (card players, not quilters)

Tx~~Wildflower: that cake recipe looks about as easy as my pumpkin pie cake. I will add that to my list.

And those turtle pretzels recipe has all my favorites in it.

I like these recipes because they transport easily & they're always hits. They're savory snacks to make, and "my men" really like them:

B E E R CHEESE (Can we talk about b e e r here?)

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. Tabasco sauce
1/2 tsp. ground mustard (the powder)
1/2 tsp. salt (opt.)
6 - 8 oz. of b e e r (any kind)
1 pound sharp cheddar cheese

Finely grate cheese on a box grater. Works best if you don't use the holes like you'd shred cheese for pizza, but the finer holes that almost make flakes. Have the cheese really cold before grating. And have patience. It'll be worth it!

Put grated cheese in a large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients EXCEPT the b e e r. With a mixer, start pouring in the b e e r slowly while mixing the ingredients. Beat and add b e e r until the mixture looks like mashed potatoes. Don't make it too runny -- you have to be able to spread this on a cracker with a knife.

Pack into a 2-cup bowl or crock. Cover and refrigerate 24 hours before serving with crackers.

You can package it in smaller containers with lids for gift giving.

And what you do with the rest of the can or bottle of b e e r is up to you! Big Grin

LAYERED CHEESE SPREAD

2 pkgs. (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened (can use Lite or Fat-Free)
1 stick butter, softened
1 tsp. coarse ground black pepper (not the "dust" stuff, the "chunky" stuff)
3 oz. green pimento-stuffed olives, drained & chopped (estimate amt. is OK)
1 lb. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
6 oz. b e e r (any kind)
1 tsp. paprika
chopped pistachios for garnish (opt.)

In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese & butter. Divide in half. Add coarse pepper to one half and chopped olives to the other half. Set aside.

In another mixing bowl, beat grated cheddar, b e e r, and paprika til blended, then increase speed and beat until almost smooth.

Decide how you are going to use this layered cheese mixture. Are you going to chill it in one large mold, then unmold it & use it in the center of a cracker tray? If so, then line a large bowl with plastic wrap.

If you are going to layer this into containers to give as gifts without unmolding, get out enough of those to fill.

However you decide, layer the olive mixture, then the cheddar mixture, then the black pepper mixture. Three layers, white - orange - white, or you can get fancy & split the cheddar layer into two, making white - orange - white - orange layers. It doesn't matter. It's all going to get eaten. Smile

Cover your container(s) and chill 24 hours. Unmold & top with chopped pistachios, if desired, or sprinkle with more paprika. Serve with a variety of crackers.

For a big party, you can double this recipe, and then you won't end up with leftover b e e r. Cool

Editing to fix typos/oopsies! At least the ones that popped out at me. Red Face

These sound pretty wonderful!
Here's my Hot Artichoke Dip:
1 cup sour cream
1 block cream cheese
1 cup mayo
1 cup grated cheddar
1 cup Parmesan
1 can drained artichokes in water
(marinated work okay)
Mix everything together, saving some Parmesan for on top.
Pour into pie pan & bake till hot & lightly browned on top.
Now here's the best part -
If you're short on an ingredient, it still works. You can substitute lighter versions of any ingredient & it's still fine.
You can add canned chilies or black olives or jalapenos or BACON & it's just more wonderful. Serve with crackers.

Forgot to mention the salad I like to make & take. The colors are Christmas-y. I make a tossed salad of assorted baby greens & baby spinach, then add crumbled goat cheese, rough-diced dried sweetened cranberries, and diced pecans. Dressing (taken separately) is a simple homemade oil-vinegar: 2 and 1/2 Tbsp. sugar, 3 Tbsp. white vinegar, 6 Tbsp. light olive oil, S&P to taste, and a sprinkle of garlic powder & mustard powder. Shake well & store refrigerated, removing ahead to come up to temperature before serving if the olive oil hardens. That amount of dressing is enough for 6, but you can double everything if you're making a whopping salad. The dressing keeps for a few days.

You could substitute another crumbly cheese for the goat cheese, but it's really good as is. Trader Joe's has a nice cheese case & their prices aren't astronomical. They would have the other ingredients for the salad, too.

Forgot to mention that I've substituted walnuts for the pecans, if I have more of those on hand than pecans. Either nut is good, and you might even prefer the walnuts.

I make this pumpkin dip and it always goes over pretty well.

1 - 15 ounce can pumpkin (just pumpkin)
1 - 8 ounce block of cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

Mix, with a mixer, until smooth. Refrigerate for an hour to let the flavors meld. Serve with gingersnaps (my favorite) or apples. Yummy!

While at a Quilt Guild Meeting, I got this recipe for a quick easy finger food.

Ham Pinwheels (That is a Quilt Pattern!)

1 pkg Cressent Rolls
Thinly sliced ham (like for sandwiches)
grated cheese (chedder or colby/jack)
regular mustard

Unroll the cressents on a cookie sheet. (I think it is best if sprayed with non-stick spray) Pinch together the pre-cuts. Spread with mustard (lightly). Place ham slices on the dough, and top with the cheese. Roll up the dough, and slice with a knife to make the pinwheels. (I like to use a sharp serrated knife) Evenly space them on the cookie sheet and bake at 350* until baked, but before the cheese melts out. About 5-8 min.
