How do you post pictures? A. Pictures above your name? B. Pictures of a project? I would appreciate any help. Thanks a bunch Amiko

The photos above names are called Avatars and you can post them by clicking on the 'Go' button on the upper left of a message box. Then click on 'Personal zone'. When you get there, you will find an abbreviated Profile that you filled in when you became a member. In the upper right corner of the window, click on 'View/Edit'. The window will open up further to allow you to make any changes. Scroll down the window until you get to the part "Public Profile Fields". There is a spot where you can set up an avatar. Just follow the instructions it gives you. (This function has not been working too well lately so you may encounter some problems. For some reason I can no longer post a personal avatar, yet I see others can. Some folks can't seem to downsize their photos to fit what used to be the small avatar box.) Give it a try or maybe someone else will come along that knows the secret. When you have finished inserting an avatar, scroll to the bottom of the window and click "Submit". Leave your profile and come back to the Message Board. It takes a bit for the avatar to show up so don't wonder what you did wrong if it isn't there right away.

There is only one way to post a photo on the board. It has to be less than 150mb. And is inserted by using the 'Add Attachment' button in the lower left corner of the message box. You click on that and a 'Browse' message box will open up. You use that to find the file on your computer where the photo is stored. Double click on your photo and the file name will show up in the 'Browse' box. If you are finished with your messsage, click on 'Post Now'. And that will take care of adding your photo. How you get the photo to that size is the challenge. lolllll There are various ways to do that. Here is how I do it. My photos are all saved in the Microsoft 'My Pictures' file on the hard drive. When I save a photo I make sure it is saved with a '.jpg' file extension which shows up in the bottom box on the Save window. Then I use the 'Paint' function in my Windows accessories program to make sure it is small enough to fit the Message Board window. After opening the 'Paint' function, click on the 'File' command in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on 'Open'. Another window will open that allows you to go to the file where the photo is saved. Find the photo, double click on it and it will show up in the 'Paint' window. Right above the Paint screen is an 'Image' command. Click on it. Then click on the 'Stretch/Skew' command in the drop down box. Another drop down box opens and asks for the percentage of the photo you want to view. I insert 50% in both the Horizontal and Vertical boxes. Then once the photo has reduced to that size, I click on 'Image' again, click on 'Stretch/Skew' again but make the percentages 35. I like this size for my postings. As a marker I try for the photo to reach the bottom of the rounded square box on the left hand side bar. If your photo is very large you may have to repeat these steps one or two times to get the size you want. Go to the 'File' command again, and save the photo. Then come back to the Message Board and add it as your attachment. There are others ways, as I've said; this is how I do it. HTH, and good luck. This message has been edited. Paus, you did a great job explaining it. the only thing I do different is I put 20% to stretch & screw in both the first time and it is ok then. Carolyn http://bransoncofretreat.shutterfly.com/ Our lives are like quilts - bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love.

You can also imbed within a post any picture that is a public area of the internet by typing in the text of a post. This should be done ONLY with images that are yours or ones that you have permission of the owner to post.

THANKS for the replies to my questions. Avitar gave me problems in re-sizing. But now I know how to post a project. Thanks again. amiko

Whoa - that's a big avatar! It is currently 2,304px × 3,072px. If you reduce it to maybe 90px x 120px it will keep the same aspect ratio (ratio of width to height) but be a better size for an avatar. I'll post one that size here.

Bozie, How did you get that picture? I had so much trouble with it I deleted it. I have no idea where it went after I deleted it Ghost in the software?????? amikoThis message has been edited. Last edited by: amiko,

Amiko, it's still there in both of your last two posts. I just copied it (right click, save as) then resized it and reposted. If you want to use the smaller one as your avatar you can copy the smaller one I posted (right click, save as) then substitute it for your larger one in your profile.

Oh my word, that's one huge photo!!! I'm still waiting for the powers that be to make the Avatars small again. jeesh. at least you got a photo in somehow.

CC, we don't need any "powers that be" to make avatars smaller. Each of us can do it for him/herself.

Am trying to un-do the large Avatar...sorry but the software really is not that user-friendly amiko

Bozie, thanks for the info on the pixels needed. And I agree with you in principle about us being able to help ourselves but many of us on here are not computer savy and have no idea what happened to the board a couple months back with the avatars, the menu commands like the URL postings, the bold command, the colors or even the Smileys. If you could help us understand, correct, be able to use those icons again, I'm sure there are many that would greatly appreciate it. I had no idea about the pixels needed for the avatars, so I really did appreciate learning that. Now I can adjust any photos I'd like to use from my albums. Before I just went to Photobucket and grabbed my photos...I have been unable to do that since the avatar function changed.

Awright!!!! I have a mousey once again!!!!!

Mountain laurel....ahhhh, do you wanna take a look at your post again. I just caught something interesting in it as I was re-reading the posts. ;-) Someone else told me that they only resize their photos one time with 35% in order to fit the board. Now you say you use 20% both times. Each computer is different????? Interesting that there should be such a difference in the 'how to do it'. Computers!!!!

I wonder if it has to do with Windows 6,7,8 etc...people are using or the Browsers they are using such as Firefox,Chrome,Safari . All I do know is the huge Avatar pic's are most irritating to me when trying to read Posts on here lately...I'd just as soon folks delete them, until they can figure it out...but thats just my 2 cents.... Now there is a possibility, TcMay. The Windows version or their browsers. I have noticed several of the Ladies have complained about not being able to downsize their avatars or photos as they did previously. THAT is why I am so happy about discovering I can get my avatar down to size by using pixels. Maybe that is something we need to talk about on it's own thread and see if we can figure it out. Thanx, TcMay.
