I have a non-quilt related sewing question
Hi Everyone,
I want to make some knit tops for myself and am trying to find some good quality knit fabric. It seems everything I see is either light and flimsy or has kid/baby prints on it.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find some good quality, really nice knit fabrics?

Thanks,
Musiclady

I don't happen to know but i used to use knits a lot in decades past. made most of my clothes out of knits. so easy to wash and take care of. no ironing!!

Our Hancocks has some nice fabric for other than quilts. I haven't looked through them much but I'm sure there is some knit fabric there.

I have been searching also and have not had any luck..I am going to stop at several Walmarts on my way down state in a couple of weeks..it seems when I was sewing the head scrafs, hats & caps for chemo patients I found the best knits at our Walmart..which does not have fabric anymore..so think I'll try others.

This HGTV Message Board has a specific board for crocheting & knitting. Here is the link:

http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/141104423

Maybe you could go over there & see if anyone could help you. You don't have to re-log in or anything to switch between different boards (crafts, general crafts, scrapbooking, etc)

I haven't shopped for garment fabrics in quite a while, but try Nancy's Notions @ http://www.nancysnotions.com/category/fabric.do ,
Denver Fabrics @ http://www.denverfabrics.com/c/12/Knit-Fabrics
Have you tried Joann's? They have other apparel fabrics, don't know about knits.

Have you looked here? http://www.fabric.com/apparel-...pparel-_-Knits%20CAT

Or here http://www.hartsfabric.com/knitfabric.html

Some here http://www.denverfabrics.com/c/106/Stretch-Fabric

Look through the Stretch Fabrics here too. http://www.onlinefabricstore.n.../apparel-fabric.aspx

Threads magazine also has lots of ads for apparel fabric places. (Look for Jersey or stretch besides the word knits.)

Have you looked for a local fabric store. We have both a Fabric Store and a quilt store in our town. The fabric store has quilt and apparel fabrics.

Some of the online stores mentioned are good sources as well. While I haven't bought knit I have bought apparel fabrics from Fabric.com
I have also bought crazy quilt fabric from Denver Fabrics which also operates as FashionFabricsclub.com

Some of Fabric.com's fabric is one time purchases so if you see something you like buy it, it may not be there tomorrow.
Most of Denver Fabrics and Fashion Fabric Clubs fabric are one time purchases. So definitely buy it at the time you are looking.

I have found that I need to write down the washing instructions when I buy the fabric. Since it could be gone from the website by the time you receive it and the packing slips don't usually show the washing instructions.

Joanns...has some stretch knits.I did buy a beautiful navy blue lightweight sweater knit..as soon as I find that petit pattern I'm looking for I'll use it. I also found a pretty off white with a black stripe stretch knit in the 50% off red tag fabrics.Love this one too but I really love the blue one. They do have some knits under Sewing Essentials brand that were okay, mostly solids but nothing to get excited about for me anyway...We have no apparel fabric stores here ans are down to 3 LQS shops again as our little Cedar shop closed again...

Cotton interlock or polyester interlock. Some of those even come in prints. Hancock Fabrics has these...

One of the blogs I follow was talking about knit fabrics from the fabric fairy. The blog is mesewcrazy dot com or dot blogspot. Not sure which. I didn't go to her connection for the fabric, so can't tell you prices or selections. Hope you are able to find what you need.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I did check out some of the online sites you all mentioned and saw some that I thought looked very nice. I don't have a Hancocks near me and my local Joann's didn't have anything I liked. I did look at some of my LQSs but none of them had knit.

I remember several years ago when knit was so popular, you could get beautiful knit fabrics everywhere, but I guess it isn't as popular as it was.

It think it was Nancys notions that I saw some I really liked.

Thanks again,
Musiclady

I just thought of another possibility. Has anyone purchased from Vogue Fabrics online? They seemed to have a lot of fashion fabrics at the sewing expo. I found a site, but I've never ordered from them. Maybe someone else here has.
