Does anyone do these? Do you have an easy -ish pattern? Can they be done with one skein or does it take more? I'm thinking of the Sugar & Cream sized balls.

If you're looking for something quick and easy, try these, Scrubbys. I have several of them, made one way or another and love them. They fit your hand and I like that. And you can whip several up in one night.

I use the S & C yarn. Cast on 4 stitches. Knit 4 stitches. Knit two yarn over, knit to end. Keep increasing until 43 stitches. Then start to decrease. Knit two, knit two together until 4 stitches left. Knit 4, bind off next row. Easy peasy. Think I use an 8 or 10 needle. Whatever is handy. Tried to use the red in the same yarn and it ran. Didn't give those as gifts. Think the red, white and green is okay. One year put those in the tops of dil's stockings.

ETA: An error in those directions. See my other post below. Sorry!

I do both and the one Strings posted is the quickest and easiest one I know...

I love doing these too. I personally prefer smaller dishcloths to bigger ones as the bigger ones don't fit in glasses for cleaning easily. For me these are a mindless activity.

I do the dishclothes when I need new ones for my kitchen and also do them for my children. I just bought a large cone of Peaches and Cream yesterday at WallyWorld with 760 yards on it for 7.97. I am not sure how many it will make. When I have bought the small balls, 2 would make three dishclothes. Jackie

I have been thinking that I made an error in my directions. Found the directions to double check. Sure 'nuff left out the yarn overs on decreasing rows.

When you start the decreasing,it is K 1 knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together and knit to end of row. Decrease beginning of each row until 4 stitches remain. Rest is correct.

Sorry for the error.

I can't find the instructions for the ones I make. But they're small and fit in my hand. Just straight SC in a 3"X5"ish size. I fancied them up a bit by adding a self ruffled edge. I use the Sugar and Cream cotton and I can make several with 1 skein.

I use them to rinse off the counters from cleaners and also use them with white vinegar to clean out the fridge. I love them. They've lasted for years! Everyonce in awhile I put a bit of bleach in the wash and they sparkle.

We do straight across dishcloths. Cast on 35 stitches, knit till forms square. ( fold bottom edge to one side top edge when even, done) We use the sugar and cream also. If want can make hot pads too. Use 2 strands of sugar and cream cast on 31 stitches knit till make square. Then usually do single crochet across top and when get to end chain to do loop for hanging. Easy to do while watch tv. Greenspools is doing these while mom and I are knitting those curling scarves for Christmas gifts.
Oh forgot to add usually she can get 2 dishcloth from one ball of yarn.

lolllll, I thought this was the quilting board!!!! Lots of knitters and crocheters here, too, huh?

I have short, stubby hands so that's the reason I love using the scrubby patterns. Room for my hand and the scrubby to fit into a glass for cleaning.

The last group of scrubbys I crocheted, I added 1 1/2" strips of netting with the S&C to give it some scrubablity. Works really good.

My usual pattern is a simple 18 chain, then hdc back on the chain, both sides of the ch st, connect with a sl st in first hdc (ch 3)and keep making rounds until it is the size I want. Finish off with sl st across the final row. Real no-brainer. You wind up with a double thickness for your cloth.

Strings, your knit pattern reads similar to a crochet pattern I have. Only with mine I make a grid of dc and then go back and dc on each of the grids. Gives me a ruffled appearance.

Oh, what a fun thread this turned out to be.

I don't crochet or knit but have received some of these as gifts in the past & absolutely LOVE them. I could use a zillion of them if I had them. Wink Maybe I should teach myself how to crochet...me thinks it's easier than knitting.

I prefer mine to be just a little bigger than my hand.
Sugar and Cream has lots of free patterns:

I don't know how to share my pdf file patterns.

The single crochet is really nice if you start with an even amount of chain stitches, then first stitch is in the front stitch and next stitch is in the back, then front..ect.. i was told it is called the "seed stitch"
