jayardi, the catfish should not be greesey unless they leave it soaking in greese, and I'm sure that they will not do that. I have always found catfish to be a mild flavor of fish. And like Pegsami I have always had Cod or Halibut for my fish and chips but I think that the Catfish should be very good also. Living in the Pacific Northwest we don't see catfish on the menu very often. I'm not even sure that our Pike Place fish market has fresh catfish or frozen.

PattyJ...any river catfish is strong or "gamey" a you remember. But, grain fed catfish is not.

Catfish are the sewer fish of the river...they eat all the crap on the bottom. And, they ingest a lot of mud at the same time...that is what makes them taste so strong.

Lake catfish...fed and bred just for restaurant use...does not have that strong taste.

I'm not a catfish lover...cause most eaten here are straight out of the Coosa River...and quite strong. But, I order the Fish n'Chips because I know that they won't be strong flavored since they are not the "river" variety.

Looking forward to the dinner. I'm staying with the Fish order and if Sue and I need to have a snack later we'll manage just fine. We are used to cod or lake perch for our fishfries and believe me they are yummy.

... and we only have 4 months to get thru now! This will be my first big retreat and I'm really looking forward to it.
One of the cartoons my grandson watches has the character saying in a sing song voice "I'm ready I'm ready' .. family thinks I'm nuts because I have been saying it for months!

DH saw the puter when he came home and asked if I knew how many more days until the retreat. When I said less than 200 he gave me the exact amt. of days till he retires. He must have a countdown clock on home page.

Pattyj, I chuckled when I read your DH comment... I have approx 530 work days until I can retire, and that's if I take no sick days. Pretty sad when one has it figured for 2 1/2 yrs down the road but that's how bad my work environment has become Frown Congrats to your hubby!! and I'm excited about dinner and the retreat!!

..this talk of retirement brought back memories of my own. I was already retired from the Army and working a high stress job in prperty mgt, and caring for my little grandson - stressful there too. And one day at church something was WRONG with me .. well I had had a slight stroke - and knowing 62 was right around the corner, I said SELF.. are you gonna die for a few more bucks? And leave this child without you? History tells the story - I got out of the hospital and promptly checked with SS to find out whawt and when I could do the great goodbye .. and got busy with getting gone. Now my company was not nice, and left me high and dry financially - but I was alive, happy, reasonably healthy - and ready to move on.
That decision lives on my list of Best Decisons Of My Life.
It's a short list I'm afraid - I was really really good at wrong ones!
So what was my point here? I don't know, I guess reading about counting the days made me kind of sad remembering how easily my retirement could have gone by-the-by.
... And left this little guy behind ...

Looking forward to meeting both of you at Branson. DH retiring on Nov. 30th unless work gives him too much of a hard time sooner. We know too many who have retired then made a permanent exit, so it isn't worth it.

...and the list groweth - I wonder if Moon River has any idea what they agreed to when they booked for a bunch of women - not just any women QUIlTING women!!
I can see it now! Late night news report! .. RUCKUS at famed M/R rocks the house .. 60+ quilters - quantity not quality - outtalk and outlaugh each other over fabric and cutters and mats and something called HSTs - doors were closed to contain the mirth and cameraderie. Other patrons were sold box dinners in the parking lot.

As i have been hanging out here for a few years, I sometimes wonder what different 'friends' look like ... and decided we probably really don't have a clue.
I'm thinking we should wear name tags at dinner with some NAME not our own on one side of it and see how long it takes for our table mates to figure out who we really are!
We could think ahead and have some clues ... I'm getting carried away here - so if the law gets called on our party we would know which side of the tag to show, right???
My mom always said SandraLee you are an instigator .. I guess she was right Wink Wave
...SS please don't pull my invite .. I'll try to behave.

I'm fixing to send a check in for myself. Would it be possible to add DH at a latter date? He's in the midst of retirement/job search limbo so it's hard to say what he may be doing in November.

thanks ya'll, think they'll care if I just nibble off of everybody else's plates, lol? with 70 of us I could just eat 1 bite from each and be quite satisfied, lol.

I'm waiting for the mail lady to pick up my check right now so maybe I can have a seat (& plate) of my own but I appreciate the offer!
