Pine Tree Quilters Guild to Host 35th Annual Quilt Show – Maine Quilts

July 26 – July 29, 2012 at the Augusta Civic Center,Augusta, Maine

Maine Quilts opens to the public Thursday evening, July 26, with a Champagne Reception. 675+ quilts – antique to contemporary – will be on display at the Augusta Civic Center through Sunday evening, July 29. 349 individuals, from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Texas and New Brunswick, have entered small wall hangings to king-sized bed quilts that range from simple to spectacular, entirely hand done to all machine work.

Quilt exhibits are just one part of Maine Quilts. A Merchants Mall features 40 vendors from across the USA selling fabric, tools and other items. There will be free demonstrations, daily lectures, quilt appraisals, workshops and a silent auction of small quilts, quilted bags, wall hangings and table runners. All proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the WomenHeart of Maine.

Continuing a tradition started in 2003, Pine Tree Quilters Guild (PTQG) selects a member to have their work showcased as the featured quilter at Maine Quilts. The 2012 “Meet the Quilters” are Ethel DuBois and Carole Cohen Pettinelli from Lewiston.

Other special exhibits include an Art Bra Collection created by Maine Mountain Quilters, Farmington area, to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage women to get regular mammograms. The newest traveling exhibit from the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters, “Spirit of the West”, features quilts that speak of the “West” from Alaska to New Mexico, Saskatchewan to Hawaii, and all points in between. Maine Quilts is pleased to present a stunning collection of 117 house-shaped quilts created for Quilt Alliance’s 2012 contest “Home Is Where the Quilt Is.” Two PTQG members, Joan Emerson of Biddeford and Callie Lavoie of Wells, have quilts in this national exhibit.

“Summer’s Offering” is a collection of 19th century quilts. These quilts have strong graphic appeal, they are as varied as the summer flowers...many colors, shapes, motifs – all delightful! This display of antique quilts includes some of the best quilts from Judy Roche’s collection as well as some that have never been shown before plus sewing tools used by 19th century needleworkers.

Show Hours: Thursday, July 26, 7-9 p.m. Admission $10. Friday, July 27 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Every year I post several hundred photos on my Webshots photo album, so stand by! Still sewing a handing sleeve on my second of two quilts I'm showing (non-judged).
