I have just received my newest Quiltmaker - got myself a to sit down and go through it and looked at the cover (for real this time, not just to see what this was! ) and at the very top, "Scrapbuster (which I am!! ) New Bonnie Hunter Mystery" So, I have not even opened the magazine yet, but I want to know: Who is doing this with me!!!!

I am going to look through my magazine now - and I have a feeling I will be looking at my fabric later too!!!

LOL You are sooo bad! I noticed that headline on my magazine too!

Now you've done it! I let all my magazine subscriptions expire because I was running out of storage room and also seeing too many quilts that I wanted to make. But now I've subscribed to Quiltmaker. At least this time, I chose the digital edition. I don't know yet if I'll do this mystery quilt or not but it sure is tempting. I'm away from home for another week so I can't look through my stash to see what I have that would work - but I know I don't have the colors Bonnie is using.

I'm disgusted with Quiltmaker...their directions leave a lot to be desired. Nowhere do they tell you the finished size of the pieces you are cutting and dicing. I'll wait for Bonnies next mystery she gives much better directions... besides I'm still strolling along on my Easy Street quilt...Bonnies last mystery. I do think this new mystery would look great in Christmas colors especially since it should finish about November.

I have not started this yet either, but it's on my list. Working at clearing up some almost done things I have going right now before I get ready to start this, but - I did like the last one I did through Quiltmaker of Bonnie's so.....

And TcMay - I agree that I was questioning a few things when looking through about size - how to's - and that is not fun. But Quiltmaker is the only magazine I let myself subscribe to : because I would get them all, just to look through and not do any of the projects so.... For right now, I am stuck with it!

Well, I did not have enough in my stash for the variety needed for this quilt. But I went shopping and picked up some bright greens and yellows. I have plenty of purples and a few pinks. My oranges are rather dull but I will use them anyway. I'm still trying to decide about lights, might use just one. So all I need is a few more pinks. I'm going on a retreat next weekend and plan to get some cutting done before then so this can be my leader/ender project to do as we make the retreat quilt.

May, I agree about the directions! Having done a couple of Bonnies quilts before, I'm going to try to imagind how she would say to do it.

I emailed the editor of the magazine Monday. This is her response:

Hi Laura,

Units 1, 4 and 5 finish 3" squared, so use 3 1/2" strips.
Units 2 and 3 finish 2" squared, so use 2 1/2" strips.

Thanks for passing along this info. However, even this doesn't make a lot of sense because units 4 and 5 are four patches! If they are to finish at 3" squared the strips should be cut 2". I guess they mean that after you sew the two strips together (before cutting into 2" segments) the "band", as they call it, will measure 3 1/2".

Now I have o go pull out my magazine and read it - again!!! But it's good to go to the source I guess... Maybe someone will realize their 'checker' for mistakes or misprints, etc... has fallen off the ball!!

After spending a couple of hours in my sewing room straightening fabric (actually I was looking for a specific piece), I now have some more bright pinks and bright oranges to use in this quilt. I couldn't find a piece of light that was big enough to use just one like I was planning but I did find a good variety of lights to use. I'm using yellow instead of blue because when I went shopping I forgot what colors she used. I think I have a good variety now and hope to do some cutting this evening.

Any one else getting started?

When I first thought about making this quilt, I didn't think I had many brights to use in it. A trip to the LQS added 7 or 8 FQs of greens and yellows (I thought she used yellow but was wrong!). After digging around at home, I found quite a bit, some pieces are rather small but will add a bit of variety. Here's what I'm starting with.

And here are the pieces cut for part 1. That was a LOT of cutting! I'll be taking this box to my retreat this weekend to work on if I get the other things done that I'm taking.

Oh Mary Lou, those colors are fabulous!!! I am sooo tempted to jump in, but I have so many other thing going.

Aw, come on, Deb. It's only four parts, one every two months. Start looking at your stash with this quilt in mind and you might be surprised like I was to realize that you won't need to buy much if any.

Mary Lou!!!! look at you go!! And I am still in the planning stage!!!! : That is going to be a fun project!! Love your fabric choices - it is going to look fantastic - whatever 'it' is!!

I was shocked to see Bonnie Hunter is going to be in Lancaster, PA in April. Wish I had known before yesterday. She will be there the last week I work. I should have retired a week earlier. I would love to meet her.

Our retreat was wonderful! The plan was to go Thursday morning and stay until after lunch today. Bad weather was forecast for Thursday so the lady at the retreat center contacted me Wednesday morning and said she would not charge extra if we wanted to arrive Wed night. So off we went. That meant we had even more time to sew. We did a mystery quilt that the hostess had for us and got it completely done on Thursday. Then we each worked on individual projects. I got all of my part 1 done - well, almost done. I didn't have quite enough of the small green triangles cut.

PS. We tipped the retreat center a bit for their generosity in letting us arrive early and feeding us an extra breakfast.

I have the magazine and know I have fabrics but I havent' started, I hve too many other projects to finish but I will probably go back and do this one. I did the Chr i st mas lights one she had the magazine a few years ago and I love it

This is why I want to do this one too!! And I figure, if I start now, when the next mag. comes, I am good to go!! If I don't get started now, then I am already behind and i would be to easy to just not do it then.... Common Debbi - just do it!!
