Last weekend I went to a quilt retreat and realllly learned a LOT!! Big Grin

I took UFO's to work on but decided to take 1 of the mini classes that was being offered. I made this fabric ornament for my DH...it's easy but very time consuming.

...other side. This ornament has 1 less round because of the center fussy cut fabric.

At the retreat there was a instructor, Deanna VanAssche, that taught awesome CQ-ing and she had this knitted braclet that was beautiful and sat down w/ a few of us to teach us how to make it {it wasn't a scheduled class but had kits available}. I haven't done much knitting but love how it turned out!

eta: I used very thin ribbon to knit/make these. [about a 1/16 of an inch wide...]

Here's another site w/ instructions for the folded star ornaments...

http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt...stmas/quiltball.html

I didn't leave the pins in. Used Aleene's QUICK DRY glue and removed the pins after the glued dried a bit. Mine are also made w/ 3 different fabrics & 5 rows of folded stars. [except for the MI state 1].

I'm also making 1 w/ red, white & green Christm@s fabrics.

I put a small amount of glue under the flaps on the praire point to hold the points/flaps in place & keep the point crisp. [The glue really grabs the fabric FAST, just hold down the flaps for a couple seconds!!!]

Loved both projects. I hope you can do a class on both. Do you have to know how to knit or is this a good way to learn?

Where can we find the directions for making the bracelets? I would be happy to buy a kit to learn the technique. They are so lovely, as are the ornaments!

You sure learned some nice things at the retreat. In 2011 Nickilee & Quiltaholic were asking for Christmas ornaments for IBSewin & SeeingStars because they lost everything in tornados & I made some of those folded star ornaments for them. They are time consuming but not hard.

I love all that you learned how to make.

Nlk, you are right, the ornaments are easy but VERY time consuming!

Sorry ladies, I can't do a pj party on these cause they take too long to make. I did post a couple tutes on them in a couple of my above post.

As for the bracelets, you DO need to know the basics of kitting. I don't have instructions....was just shown how to make it. I'm not sure what kind of ribbon I used for the amber 1 {it's a silky rolled ribbon}, but the others I used {about 5 or 6 yds} 1/16th" ribbon that I bought at Mary Maxim's. I strung on all the beads {size 6 seed beads-I think} b4 starting to knit,
then cast on 36 stitches {w/ a bead slipped up -next to needle- b4 finishing EACH cast on}. Knit the 1st row {*as w/ cast on, slip a bead up next to needle b4 putting yarn/ribbon over needle & finishing stitch*},
purl the 2nd row {*},
knit the 3rd row {*},
purl the 4th row {*},
knit 5th row {*},
purl CAST OFF {*},
add clasp thru ribbon ends and tie off; slip about 1" of ribbon ends down thru the roll & stitch closed about 1"-1.5".

I hope you understand those directions. It's easier to show then to tell how...lol!

eta: Forgot to tell you that I used a SIZE 2 knitting needle for these bracelets.

Thanks for the bracelet instructions, I understood what you were saying. I "have to" stop at JoAnns tomorrow for a couple thinks, I'm going to add small ribbon and beads to the list and try it out! And next time near a computer that doesn't block me from fun sights I will get the directions for the ornaments.

Aliquilts, JA's doesn't carry ribbon this narrow. They have 1/8" but the spools are not long enough. You need 5-6 yds in ONE PIECE! The ribbon I used is 1/2 the width as the 1/8th inch stuff from JA's. I'm not sure the ribbon would fit thru the #6 size beads. I did buy my beads at JA's, though....they're in tubes next to the seed beads, for &3.99 (use a coupon).

eta: if the ribbon is too wide it might curl going thru the beads and then I don't think it'd look right/nice. But you can experiment w/ what you can find.

sewlove2quilt- Thank you so much for the directions! I did understand the instructions, great job! I tried to find her site, or directions, or something from her on the web. She once had kits for sale on ravelry.com, but the link is broken. Now it offers it for sale at GoDaddy. I was wondering if you used a larger bead, couldn't you use a slightly wider ribbon? Just pondering. Thank you again. They both are so great!!

Lynne these are great projects. I want to try the knitted beaded bracelet when I get back home.
Your instructions are good! Thanks for posting.

How many beads do you use?

...I believe the silk rolled ribbon is silk rat tail or some such I can buy it by the spool if anyone is interested.
