Someone suggested that I add a couple of rows of ric rac for color, which may be the quickest and easiest. Any idea for 2-3 rows of quick embroidery on the sleeves to bring in some color on a muslin top that I hope to complete by Fri. It's been years since I've sewn anything other than quilting projects, and years since I've embroidered. I couldn't find any free embroidery ideas online in my google search.

Nothing like waiting til the last minute for something to wear to our club's Cinco de Mayo party!

You could do that with bright read and yellow rick rack and use some of you built in stitches you have, sounds like a cute one!

I've got red, blue, yellow, and green embroidery floss on hand and can figure out how to do a few rows of herringbone stitch or daisy stitch (not sure that's what it's called). But for that I'd have to draw some lines.

I'd have to go to Wal-Mart for ric rac. I am also considering making daisies just scattered haphazardly over each sleeve, using the four colors, anything to add some color to the top.

Does your machine have decorative stitches? That would be the way to do it quickly.

You might find some different trims that you could cut apart and tack in place...even some embroidered trim.

You could cut around some flowers on flowered fabric and raw edge applique with fusible (I like steam a seam lite).

If you use the decorative stitches on your sewing machine, use a stabilizer on the back.

Check at Walmart in the ribbon section. I have seen ribbon (on the rolls) that has embroidered designs. Just buy the yardage you need, sew it on each side with a straight stitch/zig zag...quick and easy!

Here it is! Unfortunately, I cut the bodice at 23 inches rather than 29 inches called for. I thought it would be too long. So I wound up with a crop top, which is okay for a costume piece. I have a very colorful wooden-beaded necklace that I forgot to wear for the photo. I might make this again with shorter sleeves and longer bodice. It was an easy pattern but very few directions. Took a couple of tries to figure out the elastic length for the neckline.

I found the colorful rickrack at Michael's and sewed one row of stitching right down the middle. I think I'll go back and handstitch the scallops down so the rickrack doesn't curl.

Very cute! That bright Rick rack is perfect. Glad you got it done. Bet you'll have requests to make more. It's going to be so cool!

Thanks, if it had been longer, I may have considered putting some elastic under the bustline (empire style*, as was mentioned on another website I found that had a similar pattern (or at the bottom for a blouson* effect). Maybe next time. The second website mentioned that she likes to make this peasant pattern for nightshirts to sleep in.

*not sure if these old terms are still used, correct, or even spelled correctly.

One thing for sure, I'll be the only one wearing this garment! LOL

Cute blouse! Great job... I used to make and wear these all the time. I also copied one my friend got in TX really simple. The yoke is made from wide ribbon or embroidered trim or lace. You measure across the top of your bre@sts for the front and back piece then over the shoulder for the side pieces. Sew these together attaching end of shoulder piece to top side of front and back piece. The sleeves and bodice are each rectangles according to the size you want the blouse to be and you use a square of fabric under each arm on point so there is no problem with sleeve insert.
