http://www.frommarti.com/mm5/m...=8219&Category_Code= She has a different method of making the Twister,is any one familiar with her new method? Don't know how it could be any esier that the Twister originals. but, she does have a great reputation for making things easier, just wondering...I do see it makes from 2" to 9" I think it said...

I finally gave in to my curiosity & made a tiny Twister with the original ruler. Thought it was kind of crazy, cutting up what I had just sewn together, then having to re-sew it. I did like the results, though, but was impatient to get to the "twisty" part. Maybe this ruler eliminates that first step? Looks interesting...but it also looks like you wouldn't want to have too many glasses of wine before you started! "The quilt almost makes itself" - THAT will be the day!

Perhaps I misread the instructions, but I THINK you will have a kazillion pieces of fabric allneeding sewn togther after cuting that shape .. personally I prefer the control the sewn grid and tilted ruler provides. There was another ruler out too ... it was pretty much the same as this one from MM. Never gained fame. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. I'm one that bought the twister ruler and book, but I am giving it away! Did not care for that technique. This one looks interesting to me. I'm so bad, I never realized that each of the pieces was actually the same size!

I bought a template at Joann's for like $5 that makes the twister - just a template to cut the one shape. Cut a bunch, sew four together to make a square. It was so easy!! Please leave a comment on one of my blogs....go to http://shogunsworld.blogspot.com/ or http://rememberingmadison.blogspot.com/

I own the small twister. I wanted an odd size template so went to the glass store and had it cut in plexi .... works great.
|
I made mine too ... I used a 6.5 " for the first one, and drew out the grid sizes on the back of gift wrap so I could see exactly how big I needed to cut myfabric squares .. allowing for seam allowance .. I think you all saw wthe christmas wreath I did over a year ago .. don't need a book or any spendy tools .. I sewed my squares together with the basic outline of the wreath, and cut .. I believe WCFC provided that grid/outline desing. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org

I made my own ruler using a square of template plastic. Had no directions other than what I had read on posts here on the MB. I had no problems & loved the result. <><><> Express Your Creative Side ~~ Sew Something Today. <><><>

If you examine one of the "fins" on the twister you will see how you could adapt this to a different technique altogether, that would not require a twister ruler. Maybe that is what Marti Mitchell figured out & drafted a template that could be used to simplify the technique.

Miss Lensews2 I am wanting to make my own twister template and could not find the directions when I looked under find on top of the page, could you post these directions or tell me where to find them? Wanda

Goldie's Mom....Kim Strut has a Tutorial under her name look for any post by her. She referred me to this site when I was 1st asking about these. I have the small size and the large size but do not have my camera with me here. So go here and look at this thread both pages. Each size is marked 3/4 of an inch down each side on the small sizes and 2" inches on the large one....when you see the picture you can use tape and make your own..but I ordered mine from Primitive Gatherings. CORRECTION: The 2 1/2" is marked is just a smidge over 1/2" The 1 1/2" is marked at about 3/8" Borders are 3",6",2" and 1.5" on the Rulers. If you have any of the rulers, the centers are all exactly the same degree. http://primitivegatherings.us/...er+Ruler&act=viewCat The 8" tool uses 10" blocks, the 3½" tool uses 5" blocks, the 2¼" tool uses 3½" blocks and the 1½" tool uses 2½" blocks. Page 1 is here has a picture.Read Pages 1 & 2 http://www.quiltingboard.com/m...er-tool-t141101.html Page 2 is here shows 4 sizes now http://www.quiltingboard.com/m...-tool-t141101-2.htmlThis message has been edited. I've never made a twister, but I won't be using this method!!! I'd have little pieces all over the place, and they never would match up right. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Thanks a lot. I know I am going to get in trouble on that site one of these days. I need to stop coming here!!

MM's ruler looks simple. you just cut out the shapes and sew them together. cuts out the cutting squares and sewing them together and then laying the ruler on the seams and cutting apart again and then sewing together. seems to be much faster to me.

.... having made a few twister projects, my biggest issue was keeping the units that go together - togethr ..sseems all thos small parts to keep in the right order could be a distraction that would be the start of another UFO .. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org

City/Sandie, i love the quilt in your Avatar!! very pretty.

Thank you CC ... it's a very pretty table topper size but I'd never do a whole quilt in that technique ... we did it in a class and there were so many folded pieces of fabric sewn into so many convoluted sections that had the teacher left us I'd have quit! but once was fun! The quilting part was easy I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org ![]()
