Striped bindings? Sign In/Join

For one of my table runners, I'm going to use a striped fabric that has 1/4-inch dusty rose and white stripes. Would it be best to cut it on the bias or cross-grain?

If bias would look best, I'm considering doing a continuous sew-and-cut bias binding tube. I should have more than enough length (142 inches) if I use a 22-inch square to do the job. But I'm not sure if the stripes will change directions at the seam. I haven't done that many bindings and never a striped one. Any thoughts?

If you are using continous cut binding if should match up perfectly. I've done several with striped binding and love the look of them.

I think that striped bindings really set a quilt off.

I agree with the others. Stripes and plaids cut on the bias are wonderful for binding. Go for it!

Striped binding on bias! I like the way it "rolls" over the edge.

I haven't done striped on the bias, but I would think all you would have to do would be to match the stripes on that first sewn strip.

LOVE striped bindings...plaid too.

You could try it out on a mug rug or doll blanket first to get hte hang of it...

I almost always use a straight of grain binding, but I really do like the pieced ones, and the striped ones. In fact, I will often pick up a fabric, because it is a stripe that is printed to look like bias.
A couple years ago, when making a quilt from recycled from clothing fabrics, the only way I had enough for the binding was to piece it.

ETA Red Face: I seemed to have posted to the wrong thread...only slightly related. sorry.
Would you be cutting the binding with the stripes or across them? Each will give a different look, and when you go around a corner, they'll turn too.

.... bias bindings are especially recommneded on curves, I do suggest doing a nice Best Press pressing before cutting - there will be a lot of stretch that you might want to control a bit so you don't have curled UP instead of curved Smile I love that look and buy diagonal stripes on purpose so they will have that look even cut straight grain. Go for it.
