Happy November! No Tricks here~ just a TREAT! Smile Can you believe the year is almost over!? Smile

WELCOME TO THE 2012 HGTV FORUM BLOCK OF THE MONTH! Wave

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

The theme this year is MAKE IT YOUR OWN!!!

ivy_cottage (Camilla) and I (CBQ, Little Red Hen) are 'egg'-cited and thrilled to be working with you on the BOM this year! Smile

You are not swapping, exchanging or anything else, just make the blocks we suggest every month, show us a photo of your work, and be entered into a drawing for a wonderful prize. Smile ALL board members are welcome to join us!

SEW ... each month, we will be doing a block from Quilter's Cache. We will also reveal some smaller blocks that you can make and join to your 12 inch block.

Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star

Credit: Marcia Hohn has graciously said we can use blocks from The Quilter's Cache again this year. Please read her Terms and Conditions at: http://www.quilterscache.com/. And follow the below guideline. "Should photographs of items made from Original designs be posted on your group website, they should also be clearly marked with the name of the pattern As I have it named, and that it is from The Quilter's Cache/Marcia Hohn." (Since you'll post your pictures in this thread, you will be covered by that statement.)

Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star

The smaller blocks are totally optional~ you can make what we suggest, make something else, or not make any at all! Make it your own!

Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

This year we will challenge you to stretch your skills, ideas and creativity, while sewing and even trying new block patterns as well as methods. We are here to help! Use this thread to post your questions, problems anything related to the BOM~ and we will try to answer them for you. Smile

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

One other important note~ we are NOT presenting you the blocks in any order. January's block will not go in the upper left hand corner of your quilt! Smile Just to mix things up we are presenting them in no particular order, but if you join us for the year, in December we will reveal the layout we have chosen. Smile

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Step One~
Now ... without further clucking ... HERE'S the November BLOCK ~~

Double Aster

Now, now, now don't let the 3 pins on this block scare you away! It is time to learn something new~ a partial seam. Smile It is very easy to do, but I do have a couple recommendations~

*cut a little swatch so you don't get the color numbers mixed up

*spray your fabrics well with starch or sizing so they are crisp before cutting out the pieces

*leave a half inch for your partial seam, instead of the quarter inch she tells you to leave~ it gives you a little more wiggle room Wink

Enjoy!! It is a fun block!!

Step 2~ the mini blocks will be posted below this post~~

SO Y'ALL COME ON AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!
AND DON'T FORGET TO POST THOSE PICS Cool WE LOVE PICS! Cool

NOTE: If you have trouble posting pictures, or have a challenge with resizing them to post, you can SEND THEM TO ONE OF US VIA EMAIL, and we will BE HAPPY Big Grin to resize them and post for you !!!

Step 2~ the mini blocks
Totally optional but lots of fun!! Smile

Sashing~ cut 2.5 inch strips. Two are cut to 12.5 inches, and two are cut 16.5 inches.

The five 6 inch (finished) blocks
I have no idea what these are called. I was playing around in EQ again. Wink
For each block you will need~

4~ HST's that measure 2 and 7/8th's inches unfinished Make them your favorite way. I started out with 3.5 inch squares, drew the line, stitched on either side, cut apart and then squared them up to 2 and 7/8th's.

1~ 1.75 inch square

1~ 1.75 inch by 7.25 inch strip of your light and
1~ 1.75 inch by 7.25 inch strip of your dark.

Sew the light and dark 7.25 inch strips together. Cut into 4 rectangles 1.75 inches wide.

Assemble your block.

The rectangles will be 1/8th of an inch longer than the HST's~~ this is ok!

Once your block is assembled, you can square it up to 6.5 inches and cut off those little pieces. Smile

The extra blocks were some HST's and leftover pieces from other months. Once again you can 'make it your own' in these areas. I used 2- 4 inch (finished) blocks and 4- 2 inch (finished) leftover HST's. Wink

I finished mine today. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be, but I still lost some of my points! I starched, pressed, thought I used a scant 1/4 inch seam....still lost all the little red points Frown

Thanks, Anael, but I lost a little of each little red triangle. I am making a red, white and blue quilt for a military charity so I did not rip and start over. I had to do that a couple of times earlier! LOL!

Great November blocks everyone!! I hope to get to my Nov. block this weekend. A bit of excitement last weekend, my grand daughter was born on Fri., Nov. 2. I spent the weekend holding my grandbaby instead of sewing.

Guess this is a bonus week for me, my first grand child and won BOM!!!
