quilting distance question? Sign In/Join

I used warm n white in a quilt. It's distance says up to 10" apart for quilting. I did straight lines about 8 1/2 inches apart with makes 8 1/2" squares. But corner to corner is about 11 inches. Is that okay? I really don't want to have to quilt more.

Hate to tell you this, but I think I'd add a little more quilting.

An extra bit of quilting will help it hold up in the wash so the batting doesn't end up in a big wad. It's not an extra step, it's a design opportunity!

How about doing an "X" in each square? You don't have to do the x individually, but start in one corner of a block and just continue on to the next block when you get there.

The Warm Company says to quilt or tie up to 10" apart so I would think that lines of quilting that are 8.5" apart (giving 8.5" squares) should be plenty. If there are some unquilted squares that are 11 or 12 inches on a side that might be a problem but if the whole quilt is covered with 8.5" squares I think it should be fine.

That should be enough quilting . . . but I like the look when there is more.

Thanks for all the replies! I bit the bullet and am adding more quilting. Stayed up late last night working on it. 22 more lines to go! Anyway, it is looking good and I'm happy I decided to do it. It is slow going since the quilt was already "finished" with the binding on. Means I am going slow and careful to ensure even feed of everything.
