To get the borders on my grandon's quilt, finish the knitted cap for same kid and start another sashay scarf for me.. Made a bunch for C'mas gifts. They're addictive.

Holly- I know that the ruffle scarfs are addicting. I made one and then had to make more, all in a short time. Have fun with them. I completed my Wisconsin Badger Quilt and pieced the backing with Wisconsin fabric and black borders. It looks cute. I usually never piece my backing, but I wanted to use what I had in stock. LOL Sue

I love wearing my scarves and making them. I always get so many complements on them. They are so easy to do and yes, very addictive. I knit mine as I never could crochet.
Nice quilt Sue. doesn't it feel good to get it finished.
Love the college quilt. Our university Texas Tech has the same colors so I've used it a lot. It's nice they have fabrics now.
I've had company so much I've not gotten much done this week. Got more friends coming over today for lunch and games then got weekend company driving in this evening. So maybe I'll get something done later. I do have some crochet by my chair so when I sit down I can at least make some scrubbies. Love the mix of tulle netting and cotton yarn. Haven't had time to get the red to make the Valentine hearts.
Love the Badgers quilt. Our son is in grad school at The University of Wisconsin, Madison. Where did you get the fabrics? Think I can get them from Ohio? Susan

Susan- I bought most of my Wisconsin fabric when we did our shop hop of Wisconsin. They have 2 quilt shops in Madison- I think they might have some Wis. fabric. My quilt shop also had some. Thanks for the info. I have too many projects in the works right now to add another one! I do get excited when I see a project I like! I will keep that pattern in mind though, as it looks great with the team colors/logos. Here's a t-shirt quilt I just finished for one of my daughter's friends. I told my daughter years ago, that I would make one for her friend. No one said anything so I thought they had forgotten. Last summer, as the two were saying goodbye (they were both leaving for college) Meredith said, "Don't forget my mom will make you a t-shirt quilt"!!!!! THEN, the girl's mom said she would like one for her other two daughters! I kept track of the time I spent, etc. and will discuss costs with her. Turns out she really did mean to "hire" me to make the other two t-shirt quilts! The girl asked for pink and I backed the whole quilt with dark pink fleece. It is nice and soft on the back. Susan

Great quilts (as usual) everyone! stm1804 yours gets my attention because my DH and I met running track & cross country in college and our DD is a runner too.
I finished 2 UFOs this week. First is a table runner that will be on my table for the month of February from a Thimbleberries pattern called "Queen of Hearts.
My 2nd UFO uses gorgeous Christmas metallic florals from a swap I did several years ago. The pattern is Autumn Stretched Star from "Nickel Quilts" by Pat Speth.
The friend's mom didn't realize that although I have made a bunch of t-shirt quilts, they were always as gifts. I don't think she has any idea how much time is involved so we'll see what happens with making more for their family. My daughter (whose friend this is for) is our youngest and I have not made her a quilt of any kind, yet, so if I want to keep the peace, I think I had better make something for her first! Susan

Going out of town tomorrow for my DGS birthday, so i won't get to spend time on my machine this weekend So my goals for the week will be to finish knitting a baby blanket and make 1 more Sylvia block. LOVE what's been shown so far - you are all such good inspiration!!

I've spent the morning trying to make a baby quilt pattern. A friend is decorating her nursery in pink and gray and that makes me think of elephants. I've spent two weeks hunting for a pattern of appliqued elephants with 3-d gathered ears. I never found one so drew my own out. These are my prototypes. I'm thinking the one on the left looks better but might need smaller ear. I'll stitch the ears flat as shown when I'm quilting them. I just wanted to get an idea of how they'd look. I still haven't decided on the eyes. I'd love buttons but not for a baby!
I love your elephants! I agree - I like where the ear falls on the one on the left. What fabric will the ears be made of? I wonder if something soft - since they will be 3-D - might be a good idea. Please post a pic when you finish. I can't wait to see! Susan

Soft fabric ears sounds sweet. I've got a variety of pinks for the elephants and gray for the backgrounds. I'd planned to do gray elephants but couldn't find many many grays. Wonder I'd JoAnns has some pink minkee?
I have this on my pinterest page of Sewing Things. It has a free PDF of the pattern there and I'm using it to make a small toy for a great niece who is expecting in March. Don't have it completed yet, but will post when I finish.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Bunnybcb,

I've shortened the ears some and will gather a bit more. The pink minkee-like fabric was the wrong color for the other fabrics. But it sure would be cute for a stuffed toy. Need to check out the pdf.
That's it EvelynB, I didn't know how to get the link on here. I wasn't able to open the PDF on my laptop, but could on my IPad. So I had to open it there and enlarge it a tad and trace it from the screen, wasn't easy. It does have a little tusk, but I'm not going to use it on mine.
After DH got his iphone, the kids had iphones and ipads, and I had ipods I decided it was time to update our printer. Now we can print wirelessly. So nice and amazingly easy to set up. I do, however, save files on my desktop or to the cloud so I don't use all my memory.
Thank you for the pattern. I'm looking forward to trying that one out. The baby shower is next Sunday so I need to get busy. I haven't designed the rest of the quilt. I've got five elephants appliqued using EB's interfacing method. It was the perfect method for this one so I didn't have to turn edges plus I don't like to use Heat n Bond on baby quilts that get a lot of washing. Now I've got to decide what else to use with these guys. I'm thinking I'll do 9-patch for alternate blocks and add borders. I'm not a fan of these modern prints. I would have prefered softer traditional fabrics but this will suit the nursery.
I quilt on a Nolting 24" PRO. The quilt photo was take before I had stitched down the binding. I used minkee from Joann's on the back so I stitch binding down on the front when minkee is the backing.

I haven't taken my pic yet for my project I finished last nite, but will today when I'm up and around
I made 2 pairs of pants for an 18" doll. Last summer I had cut off some denim capris that I wasn't happy with the length, and for some reason saved the part I cut off. Lo and behold, they worked well for pants for the doll, and already hemmed! The pink pants match the shirt I made last week, and yes, they're a longer pant than the other one.
That's a great idea to make a pillow that holds a book. I love giving books with baby gifts. Wonder if there's a book about elephants for small children?
I got the top finished. After looking through my small stack of grays I decided they wouldn't be cute so I went simple and did pink squares around the elephant blocks.
I found a nightie with elephants on it to add to the package. I love that it's also pink and gray. I still need to add the eyes so I think I'll draw them on to look like the eyes of the elephants on the outfit. Now to get it quilted this week. I made enough squares to make another baby quilt too. I think this one may be brown and pink because I have some lovely brown and pink leftover from another quilt.
Evelyn that is just too darn cute...and DUMBO the elephant comes to mymind with those big ears for a book, so sweet that you found a nightie with elephants...that quilt is adorable.

Did the BOM block for the month, got a baby top done, worked on the binding on the QoV, visited an LQS spending time looking for that 'perfect' fabric for/and cut out four blocks for the COF2013 RR. Did these mug rugs yesterday for a card party today. Um, started the month with a bang.

Evelyn - "The Saggy Baggy Elephant" is a good book to go with your quilt - which is just going to be so wonderfully cute! Very creative! So clever the way you made the ears dimensional.

Loving the elephant quilt idea.. and I like a smaller size ear too..If you ever do the quilt again, what about using the soft wale corduroys... it would give texture for the baby to touch plus give the feel of thick skin.. such as an elephant has...
Fabric.com has several soft wale corduroys to choose from... and several have pinks in them...
and check out that Chicopee Corduroy Simple Plaid Black down toward the bottom of the page... I think that would be awesome for the elephant bodies and use a mixture of the fabrics with pink in the for the ears...
Everyone has been doing wonderful work. Evelyn, those elephants are adorable and I really like the little sleeper you found to match. I am putting together a Warm Wishes little boy's quilt using a sports ball focus fabric. Wonder if I can find something along the same lines to go with it.
Twostep/Sandy - I love the butterfly quilt and the book pillow you made. The quilt looks so soft.
