In September, my DIL is expecting my third grandchild - a boy. For the first time in my life, I decided NOT to wait until the last minute to sew.

They are doing a nautical theme and have already bought the entire layette, so I have to kinda match but there's a bit of leeway. So I saw this kit on Connecting Threads and decided it would be perfect. Blue, the fabric for the whale even has sailboats on it, and it's just too stinking cute.

Yesterday I quilted it on the longarm and put on the binding (while watching a whole disc of Downton Abbey). So, TADA!!! Baby quilt done.

For the last 30 years (really, how did I get to be this old?) every single baby in our family has gotten one of these elephants. I've made them in just about every color, added bow ties, lace collars, and big bows. I have to get a piece of wide red ribbon, but I put the blue one on so you could get the idea.

I used my new machine and I did a cute little stitch across the top of the pocket.

After all these years, I have to say - polka dots are my very favorite of all.

Love 'em both. I'll have to look for that kit on Connecting threads. I love that place.

Thank you. Isn't it just so fun to sew for babies? Everything is so cute.

I have to say, I've been thinking of doing one of those elephants in CQ for myself. I just think it would be adorable.
