... hey Miss Lens, that was neat, I liked how she pressed open those seams and clipped bits to reduce bulk .. i have to admit i thought sh was going to turn them all around and resew them together, though ... now i have to go try both of those things Smile thanks for sharing, I really LOVE it when someone finds more work for me to do ..seriously - I get tired of old work, new work is so much more fun Smile

Lol Smile Glad you liked it. What I really liked was how she explained it all out so simply with each picture of each step. That's the type of instruction I like/need.

Uh! Thanks a lot. You showed this TOO LATE. I just finished sewing up some rescued 4-patch blocks. I could've done this instead of just plain 4-patch rows! Frown Oh well...next time.

Wink TFS

(SIL works in home health cleaning houses/doing grocery shopping, etc. She helped one client with some closet cleaning. The lady was going to throw some blocks and cut out squares away. I posted before about this with photos.)

Yes, KYIS, isn't that always the way it goes. We find something we could have used AFTER we do it another way. I shared it as soon as I found it. I almost didn't share it at all because I figured you all probably had seen it already. I have a terrible memory when it comes to stuff like this but I think I am going to remember this & give it a try. Hope it is as easy as she makes it look. Wink

What's neat about having a drawing or quilt block program on your computer you can try anything without using a bit of fabric. So I had to try this because I like the D9P and Fractured D9P so much.

I wasn't satisfied with what I saw when I drew it up. Went to my scraps and machine and made a couple blocks. Now I'm not sure if I like the results or not.

Top photo is my 16 patch blocks.
2nd is what I hoped it would turn out as.
3rd is what it did turn out as. And here is where I became quizzical.

If you join the completed blocks together, you lose your points and you get smaller blocks between the larger blocks.

I saw how she put sashes around/between her blocks but I like to test how the blocks themselves look together.

What do you think about losing the points?

... thanks paus for all that work, personally, I don't care much for it .. but I dont do scrappy well at all - I think it's too random for my taste, I'd probably want more control over where my colors ended up. Losing points is just that LOST points Frown
I really appreciate the way you show us these things ... intersting and educational ..
ya dun guud lady

I'm looking for patterns that will help me use up all my newly reorganized stash so I was interested in this.

If I could stop looking for the points I think I'd like it. It is easy to do.

The other thing I had a problem with was if there was any deviation in the squares, there was a dickens of a time trying to line everything up for the last set. Someone else may be able to do it better.

Personally, I loved this!!
paus - and others! Who says you have to put the newly cut triangles back together?? Why not mix up the 'new' triangles with other 'new' triangles, and get blks that don't share fabrics??? That is what I am going to do because, like I need to start something else...Roll Eyes... I am going to make this as a sample for my quilt guild on how to use up scraps!!! (I just decided to start a "How to Use up Your Scraps" talk at our 'business' meeting where we talk about the up and coming shows and things to do. I think a monthly talk on ideas to use up what we've got would be good to do!! and this can be this months 'lesson'!!)

And Miss Lensews2! ALWAYS post what you find that you think people here might like!!!! Alot of things get lost way down the pages and some people do not go too far back to see what was happening even last week!! And this, even if it has been shown before is new to me - so Thank-You for posting the link!!!

Scraps are so much fun!! If you've got 'em, use 'em!!! Wink

Perfect for a baby quilt, a quilt you use for camping, the cottage........ LOVE IT!!!! Big Grin

Personally I like this idea. It helps me think out of my OCD box. I haven't done true "scrappy" yet 'cos my OCD isn't as obsessive as it is compusive. My quilts tend to be more coordinated, almost matchey. Know what I mean? It's a problem I'm trying to work out but it's definitely a "WIP".

Keep the ideas/pictures coming even if they have been shown before. Not all of us have seen them.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Sometimes you need a pattern to use all those left overs from other projects... Chris

Let me show you what happens when you use four blocks. I like this!!!

You wind up with a small pinwheel in the center of the four blocks. The pinwheel is about 1" smaller than the other blocks and looks pretty cool.

I played with these some more today and the camera is recharging or I'd just have taken a photo.

I'm glad to see some others are interested in trying this. For me, as I said, I just need to get past having all the points on the squares.

Thanx, Lens.

ETA: I used 2 1/2" squares for this.
