Oh my, don't know what that pic turned out so small. Good for you Heartmania. I think the picking out the fabric and cutting are the hardest parts!
Carefully flip the triangles onto the strip and pin in place, matching the stripes. Carefully sew triangles in place with quarter inch seam. ![]()
WOW, you are a fantastic teacher. I'm not sewing but am following along & so far I understand EVERYTHING.This message has been edited. Last edited by: nlk, Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.
Press the seams on one stip towards the table runner and the seams on the other side toward the triangles. Repeat with the other side of your runner using the second set of triangles you saved. ![]()
Thank you Nicki! You are officially awarded a gold star and teacher's pet designation! Who says flattery doesn't get you anywhere?
I understood the 60 degree angle, didn't understand where to make the first cut. Sorry, should have asked earlier. Strings Friends divide our sorrows and multiply our joys.
Fifth and final step - Put the center edge of both strips (with triangles attached) together and sew the straight edge together. Press. Your table runner top is now finished! ![]()
Strings - here's a pic of the first cut - place your triangle ruler with the 8-1/2 edge on the OUTSIDE edge and the pointy part on the inside edge. Move the ruler as far over to the end of the strip as you can without losing any fabric under the ruler and cut on both sides of the ruler. ![]()
If you doing it the alternative way, put your 60 degree angle line on the center edge of the strips so that it slants down to the outer edge and the end of the strip. ![]()
Does that help? | ||||
Didn't make myself clear-----how far from the end or center? Thanks. Strings Friends divide our sorrows and multiply our joys.
brought Dove dark choc and rasberry and dove milk choc candies...I'll pass them around, take however many you want!
McPatches, are you going to pass these instructions over to Jayardi for her to post on the PJ Party tutorials that she's keeping for us? I really want to make this one. Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.
I took a workshop with the cutest striped fabric last month and got a couple of blocks made and realized it was a waste of a cute stripe. This looks perfect for the fabric but I wanted to be sure the directions were logical. Now I understand your ability: educators have to be logical and organized. I'm a college math teacher and despise buying patterns that are a waste of paper. I got up early this morning and drove out of state to a quilt show. I'm afraid I'd cut off a finger if I tried to rotary cut tonight. Thank you again. Evelyn
Do we press the center seam open?
Once your runner top is finished, you can layer it with the batting and backing the traditional way the quilt and bind it. OR you can layer the batting, backing fabric on top of the batting right side up and the table runner on top of the backing, right side down. Trim the backing and batting even with the top. Stitch all the way around leaving an opening on one long side for turning. Turn right side out, press, slip stitch opening shut. Top stitch 1/4"-1/2" from edge to simulate the binding. Quilt as desired!
KC, you could, it works either pressed open or to one side.
Strings - cut as close to the end as you can get and still have fabric in the triangle. Your first cut will yield something that looks like a half of a triangle.
Hey, quit hogging the Dove dark chocolate! Teach wants some!
great class......I saved to a word doc and can't wait to get my fabric so I can do this. There's more dove choc in the back of the room if you still need some debbie

Thank you so very much. In the photo, couldn't tell. You are doing a great job. Every thing has been clear. My brain was not. Thank you. ETA: KC, your top looks good.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Strings, Strings Friends divide our sorrows and multiply our joys.

looks great KC | ||||
Great class, teach! Now I can break out the good fabric and go to town on it. Mom will be thrilled to have her Halloween table runner after all!
I like KC! I think I'll promote you to teacher's pet (ssssshhhhh - don't tell Nicki)
Well, if I can't be teacher's pet, at least I am the cleanest one in class (my hair is still wet!)
Please everyone, post a pic here when you get your top done! Ask KC, it doesn't take long at all after you cut everything! I'm going to watch Dateline with the latest Cincinnati scandal. See everyone tomorrow. Class dismissed!
I'm watching and sewing at the same time! Love having a lap top and cable tv in my sewing room.
