OK, let's take class roll - I see we have Quiltbea, TCMay, KC, Evelyn, Crazy, and Nicki. Patti had other plans so it should be nice and quiet tonight. Anyone else out there?

Here we go.
The first step, of course, is to cut into your lovely fabric. I recommend working on a single layer at a time to make sure you cut two IDENTICAL strips 8-1/2" wide by the lenght of your fabric. I cut mine slightly wider because I had decided I wanted to include a complete black strip at both the outer and center edges.

It may take some time to cut both strips. Do you want me to wait for everyone or go on?

Yes - you will end up with two identical strips, 8-1/2" by 54". The 2 strips must be an exact match to each other! Don’t put your rotary cutter and mat away yet, we will need them later in Step 3. Here's my two stips.

Nicki, I swear you have tried to hand that ripper off to somebody in every class! Is it defective or cursed?

Second Step - Place your two strips side by side. Decide which stripe you want in the middle of your runner and which stripe you want on the outer edge. Reverse one strip so that you have a mirror image with the centers in the middle. Make sure you reverse it correctly so that each strip is the same from the center stripe out to the edge stripe. Mark the center of the side to be the center of your table runner with a pin and look at the runner centers.

Just to clarify, the 54" will make a finished 48" table runner?
One of our wonderful football cheerleaders will be on Dateline tonight. She was 26 and an english teacher who fell for a 17 year old student. Yep, you can imagine what happened next.

54" of fabric will make about a 45-46" table runner.

With my strips, I decided that I wanted that double yellow leaf in the red stripe as the middle on each side. Decide if you want a certain motif in the middle of each side of your table runner. If there is a motif you want to line up in the center of both strips, adjust the center pin to align those motifs. If you need to “slide” one strip to either right or left to line up a motif, do so now and put a pin at the new center. This slight shifting of the fabric centers will slightly affect the final length of your runner.
Now, carefully flip one strip on the other, right sides together making sure your match center stripe and outer stripe AND your center pins. Pin the strips together for about 12-24 inches from the center so they don't shift during the next step. Cutting again!
OOPS, forgot the picture.

My ripper is well used also. My favorite one is a Havnel. Think that is how it is spelled. At classes, have let others use it and they say they are going to get one like it. Keep it away from kids though.
Don't work for the company, just like to share when I find a produck that I like and works well.

Step 3 - Alright, here's where you have to pay attention and cut verrrrry carefully! Take your 60 degree triangle and line up the 8-1/2” mark or base of ruler on the edge you determined to be the outer edge of the table runner all the way to right side. Now, without moving the ruler or template, cut on the both sides of the triangle ruler or template through both layers of fabric (this will give you two equilateral triangles you will use in the runner). Don't move the strips yet, you ain't done!

ALTERNATE METHOD If you ruler isn’t long enough to completely cover the strip, or you don’t have a triangle rules, use a ruler, lining up the 60 degree line on one line to get your angle and cut. You will need to be extra, super careful to cut the angles correctly so you end up with the triangles needed.

Okay, you will need to make another cut on this side. Flip the ruler upside down and line the base on the edge which will be the center of the runner, and the side of ruler on the cut you just made and cut two more triangles. Put the edge half triangle and the last cut triangles far, far away as they will not be used in the table runner and you don’t want to be confused. Repeat on the left end of the strip being very careful you start your first cut with the base end of the ruler at the outer edge and the pointy edge on the center.

Well, since there aren't any questions, I guess well move to Step 4 - here's where we start sewing and the magic begins!
Lay out your strips with the short edge to the center. Lay out the first pair of triangles cut in step 3 on either side as below.
