My plan was to do some machine stitches around some fabric that I ironed on with heat and bond. The sewing machine needle does not want to sew through this.

Do I need a special needle or is this impossible?

I gave up and used Heat & Bond LITE ... cause the ultra hold gums up your needle ... maybe someone else will have a better bit of advice

After trying all the fusible web products I can say that I will only use Heat and Bond Lite. I never have any trouble in the first step, getting the paper to come off the fusible on the back of my fabric. I do use a light hand when ironing with a dry iron for that step. After I have fused the applique down with a steam iron, I use a size 8 needle to top stitch
using invisible thread and a very small zigzag stitch. When the left stitch goes into the fabric and the right stitch just goes off the applique onto the background, you've got it right. Hope this helps.

I used ultra hold, perhaps the lite would work.
I am sewing on jeans and don't think I could use a size 8.

I am hoping I can manage to get this fabric with the heat and bond off of the jeans now to and use the LITE. grr. I knew I should have tried it on a sample piece of jeans but I didn't listen to my brain.

I've never used Ultra Hold, only know that it is used when you really want something to stay in place forever. I've used a Pellon fusible for ages and have never had a problem.

I learned early on to cut my fusible 1/4" shy of the piece needed. Then you don't sew on the fusible. I also learned to use an alcohol wipe on my needle if I was doing a lot of fusible sewing. Don't recall hearing about using a different needle on fusible.

A better method I learned was to cut the fusible 1/4" shy but to only make it 1/4" - 1/2" wide. Then the piece isn't stiff. So my method is to cut the fusible short of the pattern, make a narrow band, and place other pieces to be fused in the center of the larger pattern. Uses up most of the fusible.

I know this doesn't help your immediate problem but maybe it'll be something to think about with future fusible patterns.

I was able to heat the fabric and remove it from the jeans. I was just thinking this morning that I should cut my fusible a little shy of the edges just to avoid the needle.

Thanks for the tip on the alcohol too. Nice drawing I am a very visual person so this was great. Now to go look to see what else I might have I can use today.

Tomorrow when I go into town I will buy the lite fusible.

Are you sure that you are using SEWABLE Heat and Bond? I mistakenly used the non-sewable once and there is no way that you can sew through that. Otherwise I've never had any trouble with it.

I do believe my heat and bond was not the sewable one. I was able to heat the fabric and pull it off I had some Pellon wonder under for medium/lightweight fabrics #805 and it worked perfect.
