I can't believe it's my turn already! I hope that I don't disappoint y'all...I've never taught a class before.

Here's a pic of what we'll be making & a supply list.

-Notebook- I used a standard marble composition notebook. Opened flat it measures 9.75" x 15.5"

-Fabric for cover (pieced or plain, your preference)- 11" x 21.5"
**If you use a different size notebook just add about 1.25" to the height & if it's a lot smaller, maybe 4" to the width, if it's bigger add about 6-8" to the width...you want about a 2"-4" inside flap (I think the larger the book, the bigger the flap)

-Fabric for the lining - coordinating color or plain muslin (doesn't really matter!)- 11" x 15.5" (add 1.25" to height, but the same width measurement as your notebook)

-Batting or fusible fleece if it's only fusible on one side (I like to use Warm & White)- 10" x 15.75" (I cut it just a wee bit larger than my notebook to allow for any "shrinkage" with the quilting)

-Optional- Ribbon for a bookmark

-Thread

Here are some that I made for the 2012 COF Retreat in Branson. They can be as simple or as "fancy" as you want.

Just one more...this one is a scrapbook that I covered as a retirement gift for a co-worker. It's a lot bigger than a composition book, but the same construction.

Soooo...what time would you like to start this on Friday?

Would 8 or 8:30pm EST be too late for our east coast girls? I'm thinking that gives the girls to our west a chance to get home from work & have a little dinner before getting started.

If you have your cover fabric ready to go, the constuction won't take a real long time.

Thoughts? Questions?

I can't wait for this class. I see a journal just like mine in your first photo, thank you very much!
I don't have a time suggestion, but just wanted to say that you will do a fine job, I'm sure of it. Those journals will make fine gifts. I already picked up a couple of the composition books.
See you Friday! Big Grin

I made some of these for the 2012 COF retreat also but soooo wanted to come & join the P.J. party Friday. We have been invited to our Pastor's home for supper Friday night so I won't make it to the party but I sure will log on when we get back.

Angela, you'll make a great teacher for these!

Angela may I make one suggestion about these journal covers? I would suggest that everyone wash their fabric first. The first one I ever made was without washed fabric & after I washed it, it wouldn't fit back on the notebook because of the shrinkage. YIKES! I normally don't pre-wash my fabric but I found out the hard way that it needs to be washed for these covers.

Oh, good idea Nicki! I haven't washed the ones I made. I wonder what would happen if I put it back on while it was still just a little damp?

Karen, which one did you get?

Malou, there's a difference between knowing what I'm doing & explaining it clearly to others! Smile

Glad to see that there will be at least a few of you there! Since no one seems to have a preference, I'm gonna go with 8p eastern/7p central time.

I'll probably have to catch this later. I still can't connect to the internet with my laptop - wireless. DS is coming to visit after Christmas, I'll see if he can find the problem.

But I will be here first time DH goes to the bathroom for a potty break. Wink
