Anyone into sashiko on this board? My goal for this year is to finish a quilt using this method. I took a couple of classes last year and finished a table topper. amiko

I have yet to try it. a friend in Japan sent me a kit to do and i have two kits from keepsakequilting or connectingthreads of a tea pot cover, hot pads, etc i mean to make up one day for gifts. the one sent from Japan was blue thread for white fabric, the other kits were white thread on blue fabric which i like better. here are some to look at http://www.shiboridragon.com/Sashiko-Kits.htm good luck and have fun!!!This message has been edited. You can buy preprinted sashiko fabric and all you have to do is stitch on the lines...simple. Just don't pull too tight or it will be puckered. And you're only stitching through the fabric, so only one layer. It's a great take along project. Mine fits easily in my purse. If you are going to do it I recommend that you use only real sashiko thread for best effect. Also, don't use a hoop.

I love it,and have done several projects for my friend in perth, I actually have her hooked on it...she is an aged carer...she does home visits and drives them to doctors etc...so sometimes she has lengthy waits, she now has a kit I made for her that she takes along and works on while she waits...I love to mix applique with it...and got some of my first patterns from this site
This is alsoa great site for basic info, just click on the sashiko tutorial and then choose from the drop down menu to see diagrams of correct stitching, I found it really improved my hand quilting skills as well
I've made a bag kit and also a number of large square preprinted different designs. It's a nice activity for the evening when you're tired or to take on a trip for handwork. I'm hoping to find a quilt pattern that I can incorporate the sashiko pieces. thanks for the good web sites mentioned--learned on my own.
