Our Big Lots just put out a email blast on their latest items and they have pre packaged fabrics, shapes, squares, jelly rolls, ft qtrs and quilt kits.
Quality wise, I have seen the same things at Joanns. Bought the two pack of batik yards for $6. Ft Qtrs are a dollar. Only thing I found expensive were the nickel and other shapes. But since I don't normally buy those things, they may not be... Chris

There was one in one of the smaller communities near here a several years ago..it was NASTY! - filled with junk and Smelled and was so dirty I never went back. Hopefully you will have much better luck than I did.

I'm pretty sure we have a Big Lots and although it seemed a little disorganized other than that it was fine I will be checking it out....Our Wally World just doubled the size of its fabric department.

I didn't even know we had one fairly locally. It is about 35 mins. away. In RI they have fat quarters only for $1.00 each. So that's good. In nearby Mass. they also have the 5 " charms. I told them I would publicize it and to please "get more." But I have no idea what the quality is..so Chris you'll have to let us know. Thanks a bunch.

I think that the cleanliness and organisation of a particular Big Lots depends mainly on the management of that store. I have been in crummy ones but I've also been in nice, clean, tidy ones.

I went to our Big Lots (it's a weird store but in a good way) and they had 3 jelly rolls (six dollars for 24 strips/8 fabrics) and 6 FQs mixed in with their scrapbooking stuff. the FQs were a dollar each but nothing pretty enough to entice me, lol. The jelly rolls on the other hand...This message has been edited. Last edited by: toryam,
There is one about 25 minutes from me but not sure when I will get there. DH can by on his way home from work. Maybe I can have him check it out tom. night. But it is hay time and they should cut or bale tom. night.
TFS the information that material is there. I remember buying flats at DG years before. Our Wal-Marts here have not put material back into the stores. One did but it is about an hour away. Have 2 that are about 20 minutes away but they haven't, still hoping someday that it will come back.

Bummer. I just happened to find it because I was looking at art supplies for a childrens class I'm teaching in June. It was mixed in with a bin full of scrapbooking junk, kinda like they didn't know what it was for, lol. If I hadn't seen the jelly rolls I wouldve NEVER noticed the FQs because they blended in with the scrap booking papers: all flat & folded up
My store had their items with the yarn and scrappbooking items. Across from the greeting cards. Had all the items listed (tho not in the exact fabrics listed) plus 1/2 yard packages, hexagon shapes and can't remember anything else. Didn't really pay attention if I wasn't an item I was interested in... Chris

The thing to remember about Big Lots is that they buy a lot of clearance items from manufacturers and if you don't buy it when you see it, it may not be there the next time. Also, items vary from one store to another, I have three that are accessable for me and what I bought was at the smallest (also closest)of the three stores. Tonight I am going to a larger one as DH is looking for something he bought at this store that they don't have any longer, so will try the larger one... Chris

Iguess I am lucky enough to have three Big Lot stores within 15 miles of my home; never know what i am going to find when I go into either store. I lso check out the local Tuesday Morning stores; they frequently have fat quarters and jelly rolls too; also found notions at really terrific prices!

the big lots I went to had ft quarters. and jelly rolls two quilt kits. Tuesday morinig has quilt books, notions, fabric. I usualy buy yardage. but I was temped. I need to research to see if the price is better on precuts.
Elainetoo, you really need to look closely, my 3rd store had only 2 fat quarters and they were in with the yarn. Walked past them twice! All three of my stores had the quilting things in with their scrapbook/yarn/stationary type items area.
Have found out that the employees don't have a clue if you ask unles they were the ones that stocked the items. They look at you with that "deer in the headlights" trying to figure out what exactly it was that you asked for. DH made that mistake at store #3... Chris

First Big Lots I visited-had quilt kits-7 fabrics total 6 yards and pattern for $15. Not fabrics or patterns I liked. They also had two yard packs of batik like fabrics for $6-not my cup of tea-pretty fabric.
#2 Big Lots had jelly rolls like toryam found; fat quarter bundles (8 fat quarters for $6); fat quarters ($1), two yard packs ($6), charm packs (32 5 inch charms for $3) and the quilt kits like above. I bought one bundle of fat quarters-similar fabrics to the bottom jelly roll toryam bought; one fat quarter and a set of 5 inch charms.
I found the fabric with the yarn and scrapbooking supplies in both stores near the greeting cards and gift wrap.
Have not ventured to any other Big Lots yet. Karen

May Baby, I had the same impression of the kits. In the ad they were bright colors and in person they weren't anything like that. We had both cotton and flannel ones. Wasn't anything I would take home even at that good a price. Was at Tuesday Morning this weekend and they had 1 of the 2 yard fabric bundles, not the batiks but the regular cotton. Found that interesting... Chris

those are some fun looking noodles that you found toryam! I know we have at least 3 Big Lots here where I live - I went to each of them last year on search of hot pink curtains for the girls bedroom $5 each.... went to all the stores. I've not been back since then - but will have to check and see if they carry fabrics.
Thanks for the heads up and show-n-tell photos Good luck to the others searching!
The fabric that cksvett showed is the same company that supplies some of "Ready Combo" packets and quilt patterns featuring these Ready Combo selections

My local Big Lots (Cherry Hill, NJ) didn't have any fabric that I could find, although I did see some yarn. I have pretty good luck at JoAnn's. They sell a line of pre-cuts that is not name-brand (maybe made just for JoAnn's?). Every few months, they put the charm packs, jelly rolls & fat quarters that didn't sell into the clearance bin. So I got a 20 strip jelly roll there for $6.50. That's a good deal for New Jersey!
