Evelyn!!!!!! Would you share your pattern for the sunflower scrubby. Please?

I so liked yours I went to check my pattern this morning and I couldn't open it. I've got several sunflower like dishcloths but my scrubbie is gone. boo hoo hooooooooo

Thanks for the info, DJ. I don't want huge hearts. Hopefully I'll have time after my afternoon company leaves and before my weekend company arrives to run to Hobby Lobby for some red. I'm using tulle already cut 6" and on rolls. The netting eats my hands up and I'll never use it again. I had bandaids on every finger and it took weeks to heal. Since I'm using the wider tulle I only have to do one round of double crochet. I did two rows on some larger flowers but it's sure fast this way.

So your scrubby is only two rows of dc? Meaning the center and then the petals?

In my mind, I thought you had made your petals by using like three different sized stitches (sc, hdc and dc) and dropping back to the sc in the next st. (I may have to try this.)

You're right. The center is dc and petals are a row of 2sc in each stitch then hdc and dc. I have a friend who cuts her net narrower and it's much more time consuming. Thanks for correcting me. I need all the help I can get! LOL

No, no. I misspoke. I recognized the petal stitch but didn't say it that way. I didn't elaborate in my comments so just said dc.

And the thought that I had is another type of petal stitch using only those three stitches to create a gradiated petal then it drops down into the next st and starts the pattern over. It looks like a series of high peaks with a drop off. Does that make sense? I can't draw a picture, so I'm stuck. lolllll

i don't understand the difference between netting and tulle? I think i tried the tulle, it was in yardage. i had a heck of a time cutting it straight and i didnt like what it felt like in my hands. thats when i got the craft "scratchy like" yarn. Love the flower scrubbies!

The tulle is 100% polyester with small holes and much softer. Nylong netting is stiffer and rough. I can't see much difference in cleaning power when crocheted.

Well, this has been such an interesting thread! MY DH had one of these "scratch pads" and it is beginning to fall apart. I was wondering how to make them!! Thanks ladies!

So I'm jumping in here the last minute when the topic might be near exhausted BUT, do you wrap the tulle/net with the yarn and either CROCHET OR KNIT? I used to crochet a rose quilt many MOONS ago with double petals so I know it would all come back to me..just need some elaboration...THANKS!

Auntie Reba, as is said here so often, it depends upon what you are trying to do.

You can make them by intertwining the tulle/netting and yarn together. You can also do them as separate yarns. The sunflower has the netting in the center and then yarn on the outside. You can use just the netting to make the scrubby. Making a double sided scrubby you can do one side with netting and one side with yarn and then join them together. A scrubby can be made with just the cotton yarn.

Depends on what you want.

I like your knitted scrubby. If you are a tight knitter you might try the #10 needle to get the appearance of your piece. I wouldn't go buy another set of needles just to see how you like it. Did I do that right? I get confused on which way the sizes go with all the needles we use. lollll Whichever is the larger needle, use that one. lollll I'm a tight knitter so that's what I usually do, go a size larger. Some habits you can't break so just accommodate.

I used my scrubbie from COF Branson - thanks again Karen - to get the bugs off the front of my Tahoe after coming back from the drive-through car wash. Works great without scratching the paint.

( Found a new ding where some jerk threw their car door against my back fender. Hope the edge of their door is dented! I ALWAYS park on the back 40 and walk...why does someone HAVE to park right against me?! Or maybe when DH was driving because he parks as close to the door as he can get regardless of how close the other car is... Either way...pffftttt! )

sewlove2quilt: how'd the larger needles work for you?

This thread made me kinda want to make a few more scrubbies. Got me some netting the other day and today was the day to cut and wrap it for crocheting.

My main problem using the netting is the control of the netting. I think I may have solved the problem, for me, today.

After folding the netting down to about 4", I cut my strips at 2" using my June Tailor Shape Cutter. Six cuttings with one ruler placement works just fine for me. Then the question of wrapping it into usable balls. Going against my usual yarn wrapping method, I went to my bathroom trash and dug out an empty toilet paper roll. To actually control or have the netting in a manageable condition, I threaded the netting through the center hole of a bobbin. It crunched the netting so that it would no longer have that fly away feel when using it.

Stuck a piece of double sided tape on the toilet paper roll and wrapped a full yard of the netting onto the roll.

Now it should have weight and shape to keep it from being everywhere but where I want it and it will already be crunched for easier handling. I left the bobbin on it, just in case.

Paus, you're so clever! Love the bobbin idea. Got plenty around my sewing room and that would help. My tulle was already cut and on a spool. I've been helping my craft groups knit the ruffled scarves and we use the toilet paper rolls for that too. Now I can start on my other scrubbies. DH has decided he really likes the daisies.
