My goal for the summer is to reduce my stack of UFOs as much as possible. I started by tying this disappearing 9 patch that I pieced a couple of years ago. It will be donated, probably to a local child advocacy center.

Next, I tied this 1600 quilt (AKA jelly roll race quilt). It will probably also go to the CAC unless my nephew wants it.

Next in line was this rail fence that I pieced for Quilts of Valor. I call it "rails across America" because of the colors.

This pic shows a close up of the rail fence and you can also see the backing.

ETA: one reason I posted this pic was so you could see the ties but they don't show very well. I used crochet thread.

During the daytime, I would work on tying. Then in the evening, I would do some hand quilting on this. I've had the top finished for at least a year and finally got it quilted. I think it is 26" square. It is the Verandah Views BOM that several of us did a couple of years ago.

I don't want to tie any more knots for a while! Now I have a courthouse steps lap quilt in the frame to hand quilt.

WOW...I'd have sore hands for sure. Lovely quilts..Do you do any machine quilting? I find that a lot faster...even just sewing straight lines....

...wow now that's a lot of tying and finishing ... good for you... my guild has an annual 'finish your ufos' contest that I think you could be winning! Very pretty collection going there .. and a nice gift to the children's group.

good for you. i'm on my fifth UFO. finally finishing my quilt tops that i set aside long ago. my guest room is full of UFO's and finished quilts. no room for guests!

I'm impressed, you tied all those quilts and handquilting, you sure don't take the easy way out do you?? I have a few UFOs that I really want to finish, but it will take so much work to even get them to the backing stage, that I keep putting them off. Besides it is so much fun to just start something new. Sister Sue and I have been working on 2 big quilts for Christmas and that is more fun. Hope when I get to the UFOs that I remember the techniques to finish them.LOL

Great projects! Isn't it nice to have them out of the UFO pile?

I'm starting a UFO challenge with my applique society chapter. One ticket for every project finished, two tickets if the project has applique (hand or machine), two tickets if the quilt is donated to our charity pile. Drawings to be held at our December meeting. I'm getting frustrated that no one is bringing anything for show and share.

One lady in the group said her goal last year was to finish some of her 59 UFOs. She finished 19, and counted and found she had 69! She had started that many more projects.

I think I need to show her this tying and get her going.
