I am hoping some of you have little bits of fabric you are willing to share with me. I am making a quilt for Project Linus in the style of an I Spy and need quite a few pieces. I don't mind paying for a little bit of fabric and re-imbursing postage, but hate to buy an $8.00 yard just to get a 5 or 6" piece. The pieces need to have good representation of the particular animal on it.
I have a list of approx 30 different animals, domestic, wild, and African, and several bugs and some amphibians, like frogs, lizards.. etc.
I do not want any "babyish" prints or pastels. I am looking for fabric that depics "true" looking animals, bugs, etc..... More than one creature on same piece of fabric is ok hopefully with the primary animal predominant.
I will be hitting the local fabric stores later today to see whats available.
If you think you have something to share, PM me and I will send list of the animals.
I have a little bit of penguin fabric, cats, misc birds (next to their matching state) & a bug print. The ladybug print is in between cartoony & realistic. It's pretty, but not cutesy. LMK if you'd like to see a pix of them.
Another alternative: Set up a swap for realistic animal novelty squares.

oops, forgot the size. Anything from 5" to 8" will do. 5" would be best. Larger than 5" up to 8" only for the #1 animals if they need to be for the print. Might use some smaller than 5" if the animal is really visible in the print.
ooh the challenge is on stitchn...hands on hips. i need to get started on my project linus challenge. i need to draw the bear whether i like it or not; that is all there is to it! no animals in my stash, else i would help you. need a print for salad??? lol game on girlfriend!

ok, another question...why would anyone want a fabric with cockroaches on it. ewwwww
I guess I like weird stories, LOL. Does sound yuckky doesn't it? But I was shocked to find fabric with the little devils on it. Same piece also had the grasshopper and beetle.... and it was realistic - not cartooney fabric. How lucky could I get?
I have the "I Spy" swap of 6 1/2" blocks (300) mailed back to me, so once I get them I will take a photo of the ones you might be able to use and you can PM me which ones you can use. I hope you can post a picture of the finished quilt once it's completed so we can all enjoy it.

For those of you wondering what the heck I'm doing - here is the Project Linus Challenge:
Take a childrens story book and design a quilt depicting the book. Sew pocket on back of finished quilt and send the story book along with the quilt.
These quilts will be going to a live quilt show and competition before being delivered to Project Linus.
As you can see, there are lots of animals in my storybook. The cockroach was selling shoes to the centipede.
While the book and its art are "silly" I wanted my quilt to be true animals so the child who receives it can find the "real" animals that match the story. Hope I haven't given myself away to the other PL competitors.
I will try to remember to post when I get it made.
