This all started last week when my DH insisted that I go to the Doc. because I have had a cough that I can't get rid of. He gave me meds (80.00$) and told me to come back if I still have it in a couple more weeks. It's been a week I still have it. Anyway when I got home I started to clean up my sewing room you know my woman cave. I started with all the scraps bags and boxes of it. I cut it up in blocks starting at 6.5 inches on down to 2 inches the rest went into a box for crumbs. Any long strips went into another box for string blocks. Spent a few hours a day last week on this. Monday I cleaned up my sewing desks. and today I got all my fabric together and cleaned out all my storage drawers. I have one drawer for 3+ yards and the next one is for 2+ yards than another for 1.5+ yards an another for 1+ yards the next one holds 1/2+ yards then FQ's and the last one is for less than half yard cuts. I thought that I had a lot of fabric but I really don't. I did find more scraps to go through. Now when I'm looking for some material for a quilt I know how much fabric I have on hand and how much I will need to buy. I didn't find any duplicats. This is getting long so I will end it.

Could you come for a visit and we could work on mine. Boy, does it need it! I could take you to several beautiful quilt shops as a bribe. It would be a real pain for me to go but I would do it for you...heh,heh. At any rate, I am so pleased for you to have gotten so organized. I hope your cough has improved.

Doesn't it feel good to get organized? Or at least pet your fabric & enjoy it. Smile I always find a ton of stuff I didn't know I had when I do that. Big Grin

Hope your cough gets better. Hope it's not from an allergy to cotton! Wink

Good job well done...I was hoping to see pictures.
Congratulations on getting some "nesting" done!
So sorry about your cough... I have had a upper respiratory thing + cough on and off for several years & doc would listen to my chest and say it all sounds clear...blah..blah...blah...
What works really well for most coughs are those Riccola throat lozenges! (Try it you'll LIKE it!)

I have been going through the Riccola and Halls like they are candy. Last night I took a Clariton and Gee when I got into bed I didn't spend the first half hour coughing. I'm beginning to think that maybe it is from alligeries but not to cotton material but to cotton wood, we sleep with both bedroom window open and the pollen this year has been bad. Oh! Well this too shall pass.
When I told my DH that I didn't have as much stash as I though I had all he said was "Is a fabric shopping trip in your future?" I told him not tell September.

I spent all day going through my sewing room-cleaning, organizing and disposing of no longer wanted fabrics. I found a small mountain of fabrics that had been given to me in the past. I found enough fabrics to swear off buying for a while. But I can find all my fabric now and know what I have so the hard work paid off.

We can't sleep with windows open because of allergies-my husband and son more than me but we end up coughing and sneezing. Hope your cough eases.

What an impressive accomplishment to have your stash so organized!

Now, about that cough . . . I suggest closing the bedroom windows to see if that helps. I love fresh air but have allergies so we never sleep with windows open.

I solved my problem today! I took all the scraps and packed them in a big box - had to sit on it to close, I'm taking it Gardenpat's luncheon tomorrow and giving it to Rondiquilts.
Problem solved - now the problem belongs to Rondi.

Yeah for you!
going thru the scraps is a chore. I am glad you have posted and we know you are alive and well!

I promised myself no more material for awhile, unless of course I have a wedding quilt to make...
Got a bag of blues from a friend who was having a rummage sale. Time to check out Bonnie Hunters site for that Mountain Quilt she has in blue.

And making a commitment to cutting into squares as you finish cutting the pattern pieces is tough, but I will keep trying. Gotta get a new habit out of all of this don't you think?

Handie- Really proud of you for your organization!!! From now on,it will be easier to put together quilts quickly and when you finish cutting into your pieces of fabric for one project, you'll cut up the leftover scraps and put them in their proper size containers or drawers or whatever and it just gets easier from there to keep your stash organized (or so I've heard! Wink )

Congrats Handie, I'm taking baby steps to organization, and after seeing gardenpat's place, need to step up! About your cough...I had problems with chronic cough, several times a year, and I finally insisted on a specialist. "Asthmatic bronchitis" , several months of 3 different inhalers, z pack, antibiotics and finally!!!! haven't had a cough in almost a year. Hope you feel better soon.

Glad your husband insisted on a doctor. If it is allergies, thank goodness.. After coughing for 4 months from various colds, mine turned out to be emphysema in addition to asthma. Feel better.

The beauty of organizing your room is - you end up being more productive!!!

I am still working through piles of 'things', but now, when I do cut up for something, I do cut down the 'leftovers' into useable pieces - and have as my leaders and enders 2" blues & neutrals for a future irish chain quilt!!! All because I am working my stash and making it work for me!!!

Good for you Handie Ann!! Making your womans cave your own!!!! Go girl!!
