DH and I will be traveling Thursday and will have some spare time. I have heard that there is a terrific quilt shop in Franklin, TN. My internet search yielded two shops - The Quilting Squares Quilt Shop and Stitcher's Garden - and I don't know which to shop at. Has anyone been to either or both of these? DH will agree to stop at one but not both and I want to go to the best one! This message has been edited. Last edited by: pvillelou,
We will be on our way to Sarasota, FL. We could make the trip in a day and a half but are going to take it easy. We are leaving at noon on Wed, visiting with DS/family in Hopkinsville, KY that evening. Thursday we plan to stop at McKays (a huge used book store where you can trade in books) and probably not go any farther than Birmingham. That's why I'll have time to stop at a quilt shop.
Quiltaholic, I looked at the website for Lovelace Cafe and it looks like a great place. Unfortunately, I don't think the timing will be right for us to stop there this trip. Maybe another time. This message has been edited. Last edited by: pvillelou,
We had no trouble finding Stitcher's Garden, not far from I-65. But I will not ask DH to stop there again. It was the most disorganized, hard to shop fabric store I've ever seen. There were bolts 5 or 6 deep standing on end on the floor in front of bolts on shelves making it impossible to see what was there. They had a few sample quilts on display that looked like they had been there for years. I was hoping to find some wide backing fabric. Well, they had some but I could only see part of it because of the way it was displayed. There were two ladies working and they seemed very nice. Both asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I think if I had been, they maybe could have helped me but I was mostly just browsing with a few generalities in mind. Some of the fabric looked like current designs but much looked older. Prices weren't bad - but I only bought 1 yard.
I live in Murfreesboro, TN. I've never been to the quilt stores in Franklin, but have heard that the Stitcher's Garden is an all day stop and you should pack a lunch...LOL My friend calls it the "snake pit" because there is fabric stacked 3-4 bolts from the wall.
You'll have to stop at some of the FL shops. I'm in Dade City for the next month or so. There is a nice shop here called Plum Street Quilts. The mother lode shop is Rainbows End in Dunedin. I think there are a couple of shops near Sarasota. Try Google.
Sorry about the Franklin one. I should have told you about the one in Trussville, AL, a little way from Birmingham. It would have been out of your way, but worth the trip. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Navy Wife,
