My Rx was not ready at the pharmacy so I had to wait. It will be awhile, the pharmacy said. I figured if I'm going to wait I might as well go get a magazine to look at. As soon as I sat down I noticed the other 2 ladies look my way. They had noticed I had a Quilt Magazine. It didn't take but a minute before one of them asked me if I quilted. That was the beginning. Next thing I know we are talking about what kind of machines each had & how many & how we had started sewing & the things our mothers had made when we were little etc etc. Next thing you know, our meds were ready & boy had that wait time flown by quickly. Hated to leave. It was like leaving a friend. Quilters are the nicest folks I've even met.

I was finishing a binding while waiting for a Red Face urology appointment, and the nurse invited me to join Guild! That was probably 10 years ago. Of all the places to run into a fellow quilter... Big Grin

Ain't it the truth!!!!

Standing above the banks of the Matanuska River between Anchorage and Palmer, Alaska and a woman came and asked if I was a quilter. She had noticed the 2 1/2" paper pieced tulip I'd appliqued on the front of my jacket. lollll

Sitting in the waiting room of a local car dealership while the car was getting an oil change. A woman, definitely a rancher, was already there. Looking kind of solemn and unhappy, quite frankly, until I opened the bag of scraps I'd brought along to sort.

We are everywhere.

And their kids are too! While one of the guys changing over all our systems (TV,phone, computer) was working on drilling and threading wires, he asked me if I knitted, pointng to the knitting needles on my desk,"No", I said laughing,"they're my back scratchers". He was so pleased with his mom's knitting. Then we went into the sewing room, and while stepping over labeled fabric boxes to get to the phone, he asked me if I was a sewer! "No", I stuck my chin up proudly and said,"I'm a QUILTER!" He was so interested because of his mom's work.

Sweet.So proud of his mom.

When my Mother was alive and in assisted living I would take hand quilting work to work on while I visited her in the community room. You wouldn't believe the conversations it would start. People are just drawn to it and open up. I loved it.

At some of DH's Va appointments, I took a small project to hand quilt in the waiting room. Several of the patients would shyly watch, then finally come over and sit next to me and tell about their Moms quilting like that. I think they just wanted someone to visit with, and, if you're familiar with the VA system, some of those long waits just flew by!

Snagged another one today. The PA @ the cardiologist. She admired my beaded necklace & we were off to the races talking about crafts & sewing & quilting. She's going to try to come to the next sewing club meeting. She's new in town & hadn't had time to explore all that yet. We almost forgot to talk about my health history, we were so busy talking about sewing! Razz

We ought to have a secret hand signal, like a needle pulling thread or something. Sewing gang signs. Big Grin

Oh my gosh, that reminds me of something I saw in the late 70's...way before piercings were popular. I was in a line at Longs (may they rest in peace...loved that place) and could see down the row at the clerks down the line. Suddenly I could see one of the girls freeze and shock came over her face...the customer had his back to me. Being a bank teller at the time, my training kicked in to observe the customer acutely (just in case). When he finally moved out of the line and no robbery had occured,I was out of my line, and by golly, I was going to see that which put her into shock. Sheesh, it put me into shock too! The guy had a H it ler type mustache on his upper lip composed of all safety pins pinned into his lip! Dang! I nearly passed out!
