Holy hannah!!!! Terrific that they alerted you.

I don't have an account with them so maybe I don't have a problem? I always buy as a guest.

Was it a letter or e-mail? I did not get one but then I have not bought from them for quite a few years. Maybe I am not at risk.

If you have ordered with them and have used your credit card (not paypal) to pay for your order, YOU MAY be at risk. They are telling us to check our credit card statements and be aware. They are also offering a discount for the next purchase. So far I have not noticed anything on my credit card, but I have in the past and fortunately my credit card caught it.

I got the email to. It said it was from when I used my credit card with them in October. I haven't ordered over the internet from them in a while so it had to be an in store purchase. I haven't seen anything on my credit cards.

My credit card number was used, and because I had to open a new one, my credit was dinged. Too bad you can't make noted on your credit reports like "I only opened a new account because the old one was compromised!"

I got nailed in October, but Visa called right when it was happening and closed my account. A 60.00 one in Feorgia went through, but the 900.00 one in England didn't. I got a new card. Was really surprised to get the letter from Fabric Depot. Glad I found out in October and not March!!! I only bought one yime last year from them. Now I don't let any places keep my number. Really nice letter though.

Fabric Depots computer system was hacked from about October 16, 2012 through late January 2013 they were aware of it on January 7th. I made a purchased in their store on January 19th and on January 21st. my credit card company called me to find out if I had made a 400.00 dollar purchased in Paris France that day. After getting their letter I will still order from them.
This was the 2nd time in the last 6 months that I have had to change my account number with the bank and if it happens again soon I may change my account to a differnt bank. This account is used mostly for fabric purches and on line stuff.

I got that letter too. Unfortunately, the end of November I had to close my master card account due to fraudulent activity that they caught and I confirmed. Unfortunately when I checked my account, I found someone had bought a Dell computer about 6 days before we found it and it had cleared. Luckily the card company refunded my money and are pursueing their money but it was really scarey and I'm sure they are not happy about it. Now at least I know how the account was breached. Not fun!

I got an e-mail from them on Feb. 3 with the same message that currently appears on their website's home page. No mention in the e-mail about any hacking. Are you getting "snail-mail" letters from them or e-mails?

My last online order from them was July 2012.

Mine was a snail mail... It said that 1/7/13 they learned of a data security incident that may have resulted in the disclosure of the credit card information, names, and billing address associated with my online purchase. They said that on or about 10/16/12 an unauthorized third party gained access to their website and data system. They went on about how they were addressing it, and to warn us to keep checking our account. There was more but that was the gist of it.

Hmmm... I've been a customer of theirs for years but did not get a letter like that. Yet? Thanks for the info everyone. I will check into this & mention it to DH, who usually scrutinizes each online credit card bill for just such shenanigans. (We only use one particular card for online orders.)

Their whole system was compromise both in store and on line. But like I said after getting the letter I will again buy from them. Do keep a eye on your account.

Oh my gosh!!! I hadn't heard about this from anyone in my quilt group and I KNOW we all shop there--I don't remember when I last used my card there, but it has been awhile. I was there yesterday selling raffle tickets for awhile, but all I bought was a pkg of chanille needles & using my 35% coupon, I spent $1.06!! That's a first!!!

I got the snail mail letter. My credit union (Visa card from there was investigating from their end. I had to give them the information about what had been compromised. They had a third party watch dog group monitoring it.

I think they are being very generous offering the 30% discount on the next online order and a free gift of the fat quarter bundle and a $10 gift card but it is still a pain in the butt to have to close your credit card and open a new one to say nothing of the inconvenience of having to wait for the new one to arrive. I did order more fabric in February and hopefully the hacking problem had been solved by then

I got a letter from them too. My card was used in Sidney, Australia in October. Mine was a debit card that I keep to use for online purchases. The bank caught it, put a hold on my card and called to see if it was my purchase. They sent me out a new one. So I wasn't out any money. I was surprised since I hadn't ordered from them in a long time.

Ladies the way to avoid this is to open a Pay pal account. Your credit card info never goes to the merchant.

Does Paypal ever get hacked? Seems everyone & everything gets hacked these days.

My CC company is so spooked that last time I went out of state, they declined a purchase until I called them & verified that I was with the card, and yes, we were on the road together. I then told them exactly when they would see charges from other than my home state, and exactly when those would end. I know it's a good idea to do that for foreign travel, but travel within the US? That was a new one for me.

After one of our cards was used fradulently, the police told me that there are insiders in the "back rooms" of credit card companies who steal all necessary information before the card is mailed to you. Then it's just a matter of time til the numbers are sold (as a block or individually) & someone (worldwide) gets your info. So a card can be "stolen" before you ever receive it. Roll Eyes

True and it is true it does not stop the card from being hacked in other places. However, with the chip in the cards now it is a litle more difficult. My card has been hacked one way or another 3 different times. However, each time my credit card company caught the fradulent claim and denied it. there was also a couple of times....years ago...maybe 15 or 20 my card did have charges on it that were not mine. I sent in a claim and was NOT charged for the merchandise.

I got a call from my credit card company in Jan.they noticed a charge at a Walmart at 3am 1 day and at 4am the next and then some foreign airline, none were mine so I did not have to pay, but it makes me mad to think that the card company has to eat those charges, that's why the charges keep going up.

I had 2 charges on my Paypal acct.from ebay customers, I contacted paypal and they went after both the buyer and seller, now I wish that I would have kept up with paypal to see what they did to them.but with all the privacy laws that are out there I probably would not have been able to get any information.I was just happy at the time that they took the charges off.

Both my Credit Union and Paypal have been hacked. I've gotten paypal phishing (?) notices since 2007 when I closed the account. That number is still out there. Those notices looked so real, I just couldn't tell official from junk, so I closed it.

All of the accounts at the Credit Union had to be replaced. So they were really on it for this one. Only took a couple of days for me to get the new card. My only hassle is having to learn the new number. Ugh. Had the other one memorized.

I got that notice via email as well...I do not have an "account" with them - must have ordered something a few years ago as a guest. Do you think it is an issue for me? I have no idea what credit card I used back then. Guess I should call the two it might be and see what I need to do Frown

My credit card was used, but the credit company caught it and called me. They credited the two charges that had been approved, but had rejected three others. I hadn't used that card in quite a while, but now I know how they got the info.

And yes, paypal can be hacked, too. Someone tried to transfer most of my balance to some bank I'd never heard of. I ended up closing my paypal account, because that was the second time it had been hacked. grrrrrr

I already had to change my card but they caught it. Someone used it for something at a hotel for $1.25 cents and another for $8.00. I put a fraud alert on it so the store people will know to check ID. It ticks me off when they don't ask for ID or even look at the back where I wrote check ID.

Royalbloomer Fabric Depot has done eveything they can and are asking customers to check their statements for the next few years. My card will expire in a few weeks so I'll have a new number and not worry about that number being used. then I'll have 3 more years of concerns. lol

note to all, you are only liable for $50 AT THE MOST on credit cards. I have been compromised several times with credit card and have been satisified every time. My credit union debit card was also compromised and they were no help...guess who changed c.u.'s!! Perhaps those of us that got the snail mail had made putchases after Oct. 16 and e-mail just if you had every made a purchase. I think Fabric Depot is making every effort to protect us the hackers get into big companys.

When you get a new card because yours expired you do not get a new number. Mine expired a few weeks ago and the new card has the same number. I have only gotten a new number when my card has been compromised. My bank sends me notice everytime I purchase gas or use the atm as those are some of the most frequently used by hackers. I also get notices for online purchases.

Well, I have the letter now, about the problems with their system. There's been a few items I've been wanting to order, but have been cautious because someone had posted back in January that they're card had been compromised after shopping there. I'd received an order in mid December, and about a week later, our card company stopped a transaction attempt @ a toupe shop in Kentucky! Eek I believe it was a test, since it was for less than 10...if it had gone through tho, who knows what might have happened next?

The computer age!!!! AArrrgggggh. Nothing is sacred.

I've been very lucky over the course of my credit card/debit lifetime. Had a couple of attempts at charging against them but was very fortunate to have an alert bank and got called before the charges were paid.

BTW just in case you do have to change a card, check your account number. I did learn that when new cards are issued, generally, only two numbers are changed. So I guess once you've been stung you still need to be extra sharp in monitoring your accounts. It doesn't take a computer very long to run through a combination of numbers to find an illegally usable account.

Sorry to hear about PayPal. *sigh*
