Square in a Square in a Box Swap? Sign In/Join

I'd really love to be in a swap with this as the block...

Anybody interested in this?

depending on how many sign up, we could each sign up for a color to work with. (Check your stash to see what you have the most of!)

vote on to how many blocks you want to make

when we are done sewing (due date of ? ) we send out to those who have signed up.

the middle square would be the sign up color. the second square would be "lighter" in color/solid and the box would darker than the second square.

here is the link to the quilt that inspired this thought...

let me know your thoughts on this.

I'm interested, but I'm in 3 other swaps so depending on the time limits I think it would be fun.
Good idea!

I was hoping to get some suggestions for an end date from those who were interested!

It does not matter to me.

We can shoot for next year if you want to.

I am thinking this would be so nice to do because when you get them, all you have to do is to sew them into rows and you are almost done with the top! Just depends on big you want your quilt to be!

Will wait and see if there are any others interested and what they can do for an end date.

Sound fair?

I would be interested if it is much later in the year or even next year. Can't do anything more for the next several months.

Okay Royal...

Would March of 2014 be good?
That certainly would give everyone a chance to collect some solids and light/dark prints.

And to cut every now and again over the winter.

Anybody else interested in doing this in the Spring?

Can you give me more info as to what fabrics we'd be using?
I would be interested depending on the fabrics chosen and the number of blocks we are to make.
Couldn't we use prints instead of solids?

I'm with califshrimp. Need ideas about the fabrics. Ummm, 2014 is over 1 and 1/2 years away. Did you mean Mar 2013??? I like the 30's fabrics that they used.

I'm with califshrimp and Blue Skies7. I really like the sample but probably wouldn't want to mix it with other styles.

I'd like to be included in this swap. It looks like very easy block.
How about just scrappy? How big are blocks?
March of 2013 sounds good to me. Gives lots of time.
How many blocks, etc.?

I might be interested but have some of the same questions as others.

What fabrics? 30's sound great to me

What size?

When would they be due? March,2013 would be good if that's what you meant.

How many? Does that depend on how many sign up?

Could we use all prints? Or how about everyone using a WOW for the middle fabric? That would give a little consistency to the blocks.

ETA: I went to the pattern and see that the blocks finish at 9".

Silly me. I guess I am pushing the due date out a bit hey? What was I typing? Never mind the thinking part...lol

Yeppers for March 2013!!!

As for the fabric... this is your swap too and it seems to be reading 30's fabric thus far.

What about a WOW for the middle or do you want to go with the solids?

What size(s) quilt are you ladies interested in making? that will be a determining factor as to how many blocks to make. And the other will be how many people sign up.

Just thinking colors...

red/Pink
yellow
blue
green
purple/lavendar
aqua
orange
peach
black
cream
tan
white

link to where I got this list from

ETA Link, didn't show up.grrr.

I think I will give this more thought on the sizes and quantity of blocks needed and post them when I have it figured out.

Keep asking questions! They have been very good ones and will help form this swap for us!

Do you want to do a survey on that either WOW or a coordinating solid for each block? Personally I think the white is a little glaring....also you could put size options in the survey...I'm for either lap or twin.

Mar 2013 would work for me too.
I have the same questions as to size, how many,
WOW centers (not sure) maybe light TOT's. Most quilts I make are throws to a little bigger.

IMHO: If you look at the quilt it has several blocks that have print frames, corners are color solids and middle is a print. I like that idea best. I don't like white/wow because it stands out to much against the lovely prints.
Thanks.

Here are the specifications for the quilt...

The quilt shown: 45 x 63
Block size: 9 x 9
Number of Blocks: 35

Scrap dark prints to = 2 yards, (block square/border)
Scraps light prints = 2 yards, (Center Block)
Scraps in pastel solids = 2 yards (middle Square)

(1/2 yard red for boarder)

I think we can stick with what is here for the pattern.

Going with a light print center, solid pastel square and darker print box. All matching colors.

If there is someone who wants white in their quilt, they can make them seperate and have a bigger quilt! Whites are just so hard to match, even WOW's have different thread count which makes them different colors next to other whites and colors.

What do you all think of that?

Once we get this down pat, I will post a sign up and maybe then we can figure out a count for each of us!

Yeah! Then we have lots of time to work on them. 3/13. Gosh, hope there isn't a Friday in there. (oopsie)

Hoping to get 7 people. 7 colors and then we each can do 35 squares and send out 5 to each player. Easy schmeezy.

1) red/pink
2) yellow
3) blue
4) green
5) purple
6) aqua
7) orange/peach

If we get more than 7 players, I can separate the red and pink as well as the orange and peach giving us 9 different colors for 9 players.

That would bring the count down to 4 to mail to each person. 9 x 4 = 36 (one extra to play with for placement purposes!?)

So what are your thoughts on this?

What a pretty quilt! I highly recommend setting up a paper pieced pattern for this simple square in a square block to insure that each swappers block is accurate. The hostess could mail each person a paper pieced pattern and then they make copies of it to use for making their blocks. Just a suggestion. These will make up beautiful quilts!

So what are your thoughts on this?

Here's my thoughts: you have a plan so go with it! There may be small details that someone else might do in a different way but if you are going to host, you get to decide. I think that if you start a new thread with details (fabrics, deadline, etc.), you will get plenty of people to sign up.

One more thought - the paper piecing may be a good idea for some, but not for me. That is a skill that I have not mastered so I would do the regular piecing method and promise not to send any blocks that are not the right size.

Good idea Bonnie! But as these are 9" blocks, it would be hard to get copies made at that size and be costly.

Okay... I will get my game on and post guidelines the next day or two.

WhaHooo!
