I would like to do a get together of the board members in my area. I know they do it in other areas of the country so why not here? I am thinking after the first of the year would probably be best for everyone, but if you want to do it sooner, I am game.
We could either met up at someone's house, have a potluck lunch, do a show and tell and get to know each other better. I would be willing to offer my house, I live in the Gateway area of Portland, near the airport. I do have cats, but they don't like strangers so you probably won't see them.
Or we could met at a restaurant for lunch and do a shop hop.
A combination of the two? Something else entirely? Anyone interested?
I live in Eastern WA, but if you schedule on a Saturday, I might be able to join you.
~Don't assume people have a plan; they might be waiting for you to tell them the plan!~
I should have said originally, Saturdays are the only days that work for me. You are more than welcome to come motqltr.
That sounds like a winner. I'm game for it. I was thinking of one for later in the new year. We have a sewing expo in Puyallup I think in March or April?? Lets see what developes.
Hey, Lisa---Count me in--I had been thinking along those lines, too, wondering what we could do for a get-together of some sort. Call me if I can help !!!
Variety & Contrast means BUY EVERYTHING
I'm in! I live in Milwaukie. I have an apt so it isn't big enough to host. Love the idea of meeting at someone's house for a pot luck. I'd also be game for going to a restaurant.
Wohoo - glad to see some interest. I knew I could count on you Pegsami! Who else wants to join us?
Winter roads would stop me from coming at this time of the year, but in the spring or summer I might be game. Because it is about an 8hr. drive....I don't know if pot luck would work for me unless I purchased something, rather than made it. Then that would be fine for me.
If life hands you scraps make quilts
That would be a long way to come for a potluck Sewnso! I am going to keep this bumped up through the weekend to see if we get any other takers. After that we can make some decisions.
I don't think that a pot luck would be a good idea for the people who have to travel a few hours to get there. but here is an idea, if Headie would want to do the cooking or go to her local deli and get the food we who are planning to come could send her a set amount of money to cover the cost of the food. Otherwise we all go out to eat. This is just a thought. I will be there.
Good points Handie Ann
Oh this sounds fun! Depending on the date, I'd love to come too.
This would be fun to do quarterly. We could have our first get together in Jan. Those who have to drive thru snow could still make it to a Spring or Summer gathering.
I was thinking along similar lines. Maybe a get together in Portland in January and the Sew Expo in the spring? I am going to look up more info on the expo this weekend.
Any chance of a summer retreat? This sounds like a fun time and perhaps we could do a sewing get together????
If life hands you scraps make quilts
Anythings possible. I know some of us are going to the COF retreat in June, but maybe later in the summer.
I would love to get together before the COF retreat so I can start meeting people. I'm also open to a summer get together.
OK I think there is interest in three different get together's and if our schedules work out I don't know why we can't go forward with all three.
1 - a potluck or lunch out in January. Which does everyone prefer? Meeting at someone's house or going out to eat? January 5th and 19th work for me. What about other people?
2 - Sew Expo in Puyallup, (I have always wanted to go but haven't made it yet). The dates for 2013 are February 28th through March 3rd. They don't have any details on their website yet except to say it is $10 per day per person to get in. The website is www.sewexpo.com. What if we met up on Saturday March 2nd and attended the Expo together?
3 - A retreat this summer - I am thinking towards the end of July or sometime in August. Maybe somewhere along the coast?
What do each of think?
They all work for me. If the weather is bad I can always take the train to Portland it is faster than driving and more relaxing too. Or some of us might want to share a ride.
The sew expo in Puyallup is good I'm already planning to go to it. So saturday is ok for me.
A retreat this summer sounds great. I have always thought that we should do that.
What date works for you in January Handie Ann?
Headie, I'm retired all dates are open for me.
I can't wait for the day I can say that! LOL
This sounds like fun!!!! Not sure about the expo, but may be a possibility for me. I would certainly be interested in the retreat though.

I am a couple of hours south of Portland.

I wish I lived near you all so I could come too. I just wanted to say that if you can possibly swing a weekend for a retreat, do it!! Can't think of a better way to get to know members from the message board.
Warm Buns arranged for a group of us to meet Thurs to Sunday (Nov 2011) in Alabama, and April '13 will be our 4th get together, with 2 added days. Originally for the Southern belles, we have had 18 - 24 MB members from about 12 Southern & East Coast states. It's a super weekend visiting, sewing, eating, shopping, and sharing after sleeping in our awesome beds.
You don't need a fancy place, basically somewhere to sew and sleep, but someone to cook would be a plus! We're bl*ssed with a retreat center owned by a quilter/rug hooker/fantastic cook (she even makes our burger buns!) who is the AL state chairman for QoV.
Have I started the wheels turning yet?!?
"Wishing you sunshine and blessings"
Yes, yes and yes Ellen. I have always wished I lived closer to you guys so I could come to your events. There aren't as many of us out west but if will be fun to get together with as many as can make it.
I need to go eat dinner but I will be back with some details in a little bit.
I propose we start with lunch at Olive Garden at Mall 205 at 11:30am on Saturday January 19th. I don't know if they take reservations or not, but if they do I can set it up for Circle of Friends. At the first of January I can start a new thread for our lunch and will include the address at that time. After lunch we can come to my house for show and tell and dessert. Handie Ann, if you come by train I know we can get you picked up from the station.
At the lunch we can firm up details for going to the Sew Expo for those that can attend and if people bring ideas for when they would like to get together for a summer retreat, and where, we can start working on planning for that. I would be happy to put up threads for each of these activities as we get closer to the dates so that others might join us.
So, any objections to the 19th?
I just saw this.....can't do it in January....but luv the idea of the expo....i could possibly wangle some time off for that.....how cool , Lisa and Ardy....would luv to visit again.....just haven't been able to make it that way in a long time....I will be watching this thread ...
Tami! I was wondering where you were hiding. I hope the Sew Expo works out for you.
Well the 19th works for me. As for the Expo I have a really nice 5th wheel RV that some one can use.It sits right beside our house. It has running water(hot & cold), electric plus heat. and a Queen size bed. All the comforts of home. Plus a nice size shower. If anyone wants to use it the weekend of the Expo.
As for the retreat If any one has an Idea for a place to hold it speak up. Maybe some of the gals from Idaho, Montana and California and places in the South west would like to come for it.
Wish I could be there! Headie: I am looking forward to spending some time with you in PA!!
Handie - great offer on the RV and I agree with you about the retreat - it should be open to anyone close enough to come.
Auntie Reba - me too!
