Ever heard of starch applique???? I guess the point is the fabric is less likely to ravel, shred.

Wow, both the applique and background are starched 5 or 6 times! That's a lot of starch. How many times would you have to wash your quilt to get all that starch out?

I had seen spray starch used for needleturn applique - the technique where you spray starch into a container, like the top of the can, and use a child's paint brush to paint the seam allowance, and use an iron to stick it down underneath the applique piece. That was what I was expecting. I had never seen anything like this, though.

Hope she keeps the silverfish in mind....my DGM always used a lot of starch when ironing clothes, sheets, etc. drew the silverfish like crazy. That is why I use Magic Sizing whenever starch is called for...less clean up to avoid the little critters.
