This is my first time posting here, but I'm hoping someone can help! I made a dress for my daughter for a family event next weekend, and I decided to use the leftover fabric to make a matching diaper cover. The tutorial directions call for folding down 1/2" and ironing, and then doing that again to create the casing. Then it gets topstitched almost the whole way around, leaving an opening to put in elastic. This all worked perfectly, and then I threaded the elastic through. When I went to sew the elastic together, with an overlap of 1", my machine flipped out and started making a subtle scraping noise. The lower bobbin thread would then get tangled or the upper thread would break no matter how many times I tried and fixed it. I am using a size 14 needle, switched to 16, but it didn't help. The tension appears to be adjusted perfectly at 7.5, and I'm using a zigzag stitch. My machine is a brother CS 6000i. I tried testing different options on practice elastic, but it still won't work. Makes same quiet scraping noise. I can still sew everything else perfectly, just not the elastic together. Might anyone be able to help? I'm really hoping to have this done by next weekend!!! Thanks so much in advance.

A tip from Sewing With Nancy. Butt the two ends of elastic to each other. take a small rectangular piece of fabric large enough to cover each end buy about an inch or so. Wrap around the two ends. If you have zig zag on your machine, use that to join the two pieces together. If not, it is okay too. Then Stitch several times thru the fabric on each side of the center where the elastic is butted together. Again use zig zag if you have it but just a straight stitch if you don't. Then trim the fabric to the size of the elastic. Good luck... Chris after this is done, trim the fabric to the size of the ribbon.

So glad I could help. Always feel free to ask for any help you need here. There are a lot of people that have many other crafts besides just quilting. We all just borrow from another... chris
