Did you notice the little packages in our retreat bags and some were lying on the tables with this warning? Well, it is best to heed the warning!! I had two in my bag and I picked up a couple more off the table. I have finished two of these little English paper piecing jewels and have started the third one. While we were at the quilt show, I bought a package of diamonds to make some 8 pointed stars. I really don't need something else to do, but they are so easy to take along with you and quick.

Yes. I picked them up too but have yet to open them. My GMFG is on a larger scale, but SIL is making one with those small templates. English PPing is almost "thoughtless" - the hexagons go together so easily!
KBlue, I'll post pics when I complete the 4 of them.
I did a pieced GFG several years ago. It was a four generation quilt. My grandmother had started it sometime before the mid-60's. When we cleaned out her house, I found it. Some blocks, some cut pieces and the template she had cut from a brown paper sack. When I finally got it out and decided to work on it, I gave some pieces to my mother and my daughter to piece. Then I put them all together and my mother hand quilted it. This one will be smaller pieces.

Thanks Meme. That's a beautiful quilt, more so because 4 generations worked on it. I have a feeling some of my UFO's may end up that way. Treasures for future generations t discover!

Oh my - that quilt is just gorgeous!! I have a set from the retreat still in the bag that has not been sorted through and put away (shhh, that bag is not alone, I've been folding fabrics that have patiently been waiting to be put away for longer than I care to admit! )
My plan is to try and concentrate on these during the winter months - will be here before I know it.

They are so cute and colorful! I see them appliqued to a solid background with green rick-rack as stems. Lovely bunch of flowers.
My DD's GMIL passed away and they found in her closet a box of hexies she had cut out in 1973. DD gave them to me and I have been incorporating them in other projects. Unfortunately they weren't cut out accurately enough to join together easily, so I made two baby quilts for her great grand children with some and appliqued the rest to a lot of things!
MemeQuilts, beautiful quilt. Lovely family treasure. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Quiltinana2,

I've been working on a GMFG quilt for several yrs but my petals are a bit bigger...I think about 2.5"...it's almost queen size and all I need to do is make some 1/2 flowers for the edges. I should get it back out and finish it, huh?
Last month I went to AQS in Grand Rapids, Mi and one of the vendors had a mini top done w/ 1/4" petals...I'm a mini lover and bought a pack of the precut papers. I made a few on the plane ride [to Branson] and worked on them when I had time during the retreat. Here's a pic of it...sorry the lighting in the pic isn't the best! I put a quarter by the flowers and a dime by the petals that aren't together yet, just so you'd get an idea just how small these are. They are just tooo cute!!
You are so right Meme quilts, these ARE addicting! I love your quilt!! This message has been edited. Last edited by: sewlove2quilt,

sewlove2quilt, those are beautiful. You showed me a few of the petals on the bus back to Branson. I can't believe how small they are. I'm thinking about using a solid yellow between mine. I like the two colors also. I may have to think about that arrangement also.

Meme - I have some of those little packets from the retreat. And as much as I love the idea, I am currently epp with diamonds creating 6 pointed stars.
soooo, if you PM me your address I will gladly send you more.
Meme, those turnes out so cute! Sewlove, your mini's are amazing. I don't know if I would have the courage to try that!

DJ, I like how you are putting them together with the black diamonds. When I made more hexagon shapes I saved some of the diamonds that were inbetween and I have thought about black diamonds between the flowers in my quilt. Right now I'm leaning toward a row of yellow hexagons around each flower. Then I'm going to try the black diamonds to see what it looks like.

Cant wait to see what you decide!
I seem to gravitate to black, but with all the scrapes I plan to use I needed something that would highlight them. I have LOTS of stars done, but because I often do two of the same scrap, I'm waiting to get a larger varity to connect so that the double are spread around.

Only in the last 2 or 3 years I started adding a little black to some of my quilts. I think it really makes the colors pop.

DJBrown, what size are those stars? Looks almost as small as my flowers! Did you buy the precut shapes? I really like the black w/ them, too!

Each star is 3.25 across two points at the widest point. They are 60* diamonds with each side 1 inch.
I have seen the paper and plastic pieces on the web but I'm just too cheep so I found a website and generated a sheet and print them out on lightweight card stock. I can use each piece about 3 or 4 times.

How wonderful that four generations worked on your quilt, Meme.
Lynne, I like your white background a lot better than the green background from the show.
That's a neat idea to do stems using rick rack.
