Sew & Tell 1-11-13
Sew & Tell is our weekly sharing thread. Tell us what you're working on, what you've finished- we're here to cheer you on!

I finished a crocheted scarf for youngest DD, and spent hours and hours cutting up jeans into 6 inch squares. That was my weekly goal, and I made it!

So what are you working on?
Holly

can feel for the ones who were sick this year, I too had a bad sinus infection. Didn't even go near the sewing machine for 3 weeks, but better now, I made these samples for LQS. First the "big" one made with 5" squares and the lil twister tool. The second one I will post is for the tiny tool and 2 1/2" squares.

Kayla...what a great assortment of hexies. I love the gfg flowers with the blue borders that are next to the new hexies. That swap was so tempting, but the deadline would have stressed me out - conflicts with deadlines at work. Frown I was glad when the signups were full so the temptation was gone.

The twister Christmas trees are so darn cute - I especially like the smaller one, with the yo-yo ornaments and the snowfakes.

Those little twister trees are so cute.

The boxers look warm, are they easy to make?

Great work on the hexies! I wasn't brave enough to join that swap but I plan to be watching every step of the way. Wink

If I ever download my camera I will have pics for sharing. But nothing new to report this week.

Still working on king-sized quilt for DD#2; it requires 506 blocks and I have over 300 done. At my sewing group yesterday, I had 47 cut out- got them all stitched, pressed and trimmed to size. They are all batiks and will be beautiful if I ever get it done. DD came to help last week and we got 72 of the blocks stitched together - she'll be back next weekend to help some more - too bad she lives nearly 3 hours away and works full time - really cuts into our sewing.

FINALLY!! Finished a king quilt I've been working on for 4 years. It is made up of 3,878 YoYos and 1,320 3 1/2 inch circles appliquéd on the back to cover the mechanics of the pearl cotton embroidery. It is entirely hand cut and stitched.

Absolutely love the yo-yo quilt. I appreciate the time and work you put into it. I hand stitched a catheral quilt (queen) and it took me about two years to finish it. l=Love it, but never again.

My goal this year was to work on two UFO's and not start something new till I finished. I may have to revise my goal. Do you think I could work on the UFO's till the 15th of the month and then do something new?
I have been working hard on a BOM that is Halloween Baltimore. I have only 1 block of 13 to trace onto the fusible and I have three to fuse to the background and 2 waiting to topstitch. That means I have SEVEN done. Unfortunately, the first block I did had a lot of embroidery and I see now that the background I was sent is not the same as the others. Guess I will have to do it on the background that matches the others. Crapola!

I did need to do a small project for my Secret Pal at Quilt Guild. Got that done.

Sandy- I love your twister trees. That is a pattern I need to try. Kayla, you must have the patients of a Saint. WOW!!!!- Your quilt is beautiful and looks great on the bed. While I was cleaning my sewing room, I found a table runner all pinned and ready to finish. Instead of putting it away, I did finish it. It is a disappearing nine patch. Sue

This is such fun! I love these Kansas City heart blocks and thought it would be fun to use one for this technique. I traced the design with a pencil, painted with Sharpies, spritzed with alcohol, dried, pressed, and quilted it. I need to get it bound and it'll be ready for my table. Thank you so much for this fun, inspirational lesson, N T Quilter!

Mugrug quilted in green and yellow thread, ready to be bound.

Now wouldn't it be fun to dye fabric then cut out applique shapes from it? Like autumn leaves...yummy!

Neat projects everyone!

Spent most of yesterday picking and packing up all the fabric & christmas wrapping things in the spare bedroom. Will stay like that till I need some fabric for a project and will start digging thru all that again!

Sandy O !, love your twister trees especially since I have the large ruler and yet to do anything with it... Chris

Chris, the twister patterns are pretty interchangeable, you just adjust the first border. If you mean you have the one to use with the 10" square I think the tree pattern would make a bed size top with the addition of borders.

Kaylaquilts, that is a beautiful quilt, lots of time and work! Could you show the back too! I have a yo-yo top that I found in my mothers' things. It doesn't have any backing on it though and I 've wondered if I should try to put one on it. It's made with fabric from the 30's, and I think it must be dole bed size.

A lot of great projects this week. Savedsinner, love the quilt and pillowcases you made for your mom, know she'll love it too.

SisterSue, your tablerunner looks great, I really like the colors.

Kayla, I am in awe of your yo-yo quilt. I second Bunny's request to see the back. It looks so delicate. My yo-yos fall apart so I know I will never make one. Thank you for sharing!
