I am making small cellphone purses that have same fabric straps (finished size about 1/4 - 1/2" wide). I would like to find a way for my bags to have adjustable straps so that someone may find the length they like ie. over the shoulder, over the wrist length. Does anyone have any ideas? I have gone online, but everything is too wide. I have given up and just made everything over the shoulder they way I like it. I suppose I could do snaps, but I don't really like snaps.

    Thanks for any ideas.

You could use velcro, or those "D" rings, or possibly use a small belt buckle and small grommets in the strap. Someone else probably will have other suggestions for you.

Are you making those cute "catty" or is it "kitty" cell phone carriers, or using your own pattern?

helen - your post is very timely for me. I am trying my hand at macrame to make a cell phone holder. I have never done it before but am discovering it's time consuming. I'd be interested in what type of pattern you're using as well!

Well, it could always be knotted with a loop on top. I think that's an OK look.

If you make a skinny strap, then it could be knotted as long or short as needed. Or a wider strap with pointy tips (remember those straps on our dresses? wider than spaghetti straps?) could be knotted wherever.

Scroll down to Cell Phone Bag, I have made a ton and it is a very easy pattern if it fits your cell phone, and it fits my camera too! Comes in a three pack including a generous length of rattail for the strap, wonderful! Iron a long piece of printed interfacing on a length of fabric , follow the folding directions ,and turn it out..there you go! EASY and FAST! This is the pattern I love the best. The pattern is on the printed interfacing, you get enough to make three in one package.

I add this picture only because I hoped it would show the strap system. I made loops on each side then made the strap a giant loop that went through the side loops. It could either be pulled as a single long strap or two short straps.

my philosophy: there are no real mistakes in quilting, just design opportunities!

No, I am doing my own design. I am still working on it. I am combining two different patterns together. I will admit to one of the patterns is by Lazygirl Designs. When I am happy with it, I'll post a photo.

Thank you for your input. I was thinking about velcro too.

To everyone who responded to my adjustable strap problem, Thank you. I apologize for not navigating this system correctly. I'm learning. I am not making the cat purse and I am not making the 3 cellphone kit. I am doing a combination of patterns on my own. To Jbk, I know how time consuming it is. I have spent months working and reworking this idea. I don't know why it is so important to me. I'm not selling them. I just want to donate them and give as gifts, but I want to be proud and I don't want it to be something someone says "thankyou" and then throw in the bottom drawer some place.

Everyone had great ideas. I think I'll try the long strap looped thru the loops. This looks doable to me and you don't even need to buy anything else.

    Thank you everyone. HelenL
