i am with city/sandie. mugrugs are a great way to practice a technique u have never tried. think of them as a palette for creativity. no one here is judging. i use the mugrugs for all sorts of things. i have one under a machine i use to lessen the noise. next month when we do the winter/holiday theme, i expect you to be on the list.

I'm with Sandie and Mandy....gotta stop putting their names together. teeheehee.

I'm using this swap to relocate the creativity and motivation that I lost with Gary's death. Sooooo if I can relearn how to use my abilities, you can learn, relearn, increase yours. Look what I did for my rug to Bunny....a log cabin pattern. Most basic of patterns. AND mug rugs don't require a pattern....just a fun mood.

Please stay with us?

I will put my 2 cents in also, Applebetty. This is not a contest, just good friends sending each other a fun gift to use. I also had stopped sewing until I got onto this board and just enjoy exchanging with you gals across the country. I would be proud to exchange with you anytime.

Well, I will jump in with my 2 cents worth also. I have never, and I mean never, made a mug rug before. I decided to "throw caution to the wind" so to speak, and just do it. I am planning on doing the next one also. It's obvious I need to practice on a lot of techniques, and this is surely the most fun way I can think of.

Paus4quilts is an accomplished quilter, as are a lot of the ladies, so I was intimidated somewhat, but it was so much fun I just thought I wasn't getting any where by just sitting by and watching. I absolutely love the mugrug that Pauline sent me, it's beautiful, and I can tell she put a lot of work into it. I only hope I can improve as I go along, but if I don't try, I definately won't get any better.

Ohhh, Bunny, thank you very much. You made me blush, truly. I'm glad you liked your rug. And I meant it when I said, I loved the one you made for me. It's on my coffee table with my tea cup. Hmmmmm, that sounds odd, doesn't it? lollll

So glad you will be making more.

Applebetty there is nothing wrong with the mugrug you made. These are just quick little quilts and can be made however you want. I am hanging it with me other mugrugs I have received. The Halloween side.

City/sandie I will see what I can do on my ende. I have your address also. You girls are just way to sweet and won't take no for a answer. I am really a collector of fabric and not a quilter. I have only done a couple of nine patch tops and strip tops, but have never tried to quilt. I usually just tie them. I am just amazed at the beautiful work quilters can do. When I retired 4 years ago I wanted to take a class or two. which has never happened. I read a lot and check out the board and other sites to try and learn something all the time about quilting. I got a bunch of material from my grandmother when she passed away 10 years ago and I think with her material and what I have been stocking up on, I probably have enough to make about 50 quilts. I have gotten into the abc swaps and have 10 sets of those, that I have never started to do. I have seen patterns for the story quilts and would love to do some of them for charity, but it is all in boxes. My husband tells me all the time to take the time and just get started. Because if I ever turn up my toes it will all go in the trash.Because he says he will not try and sort in all out. Sorry I am rambling. I have signed up to go to Harrisburg next June. Hope to see some of you there and learn a few things .Thank you for listening. See you around the boards

.....woo hoo Betty ... looking forward to meeting you then. Fabric collectors are precious people too - they don't just start whacking and destroying perfectly good stuff, andyou know that stuff needs a good petting now and then.
Quilting is something of a misnomer - most of us really aren't 'quilters' exactly, we are piecers or patchworkers, and maybe we quilt, too. Sometimes something as big as a quilt, even a baby quilt, seems like such a huge undertaking, and unless you hae a good reason for making o ne - like baby shower or wedding or graduation - it can be kind of tough getting motivated. These mugrugs are so fun, take so little fabric, take as little or as much time as you want to invest - and they make someone really happy ... just getting soemthing is the mail is so FUN. i got into the DOLL QUILTS and THAT was right up my alley - again, just small things with so many doll sized ideas to apply.
One thing for me thatmakes it hard is when I put everything away for some cleaning reason - and then having to get it o ut and mess with it ... so I have a small area set up that is FOR ME and i demand my bit of space be family-free. It's mine Smile
Earlier this year I got out a lot of fabrics that have been stagnating and cut them into strips and blocks - hadn't done much with them, until I got started on the mugrugs, now I just rummage in the boxes of fabric and pick stuff .. and don't change my mind. Do you have a space for your machine and some stuff.
Well you are right about our attitudes here Smile so you are in the right place - we love getting to encourage one another.

PS .... is there a quilt guild in your area? A fabric shop - they usually know about friendship groups ... I doubt I'd get anything done without mine!

While I was here I figured I might as well post pic of the one I sent Mandy. I need to practice some of that lovely quilting that you all do so well.
