I just installed a package of honeybees in my top bar hive this afternoon and I am all inspired to make (or at least plan) a honeybee theme quilt! Or maybe just a wallhanging to hang in the kitchen. Anyway, I'm very excited about my new "girls" and I would love to see any quilts anyone has done that feature bees, honeycomb, hives, or other bee related themes. After all, it's spring and it's the perfect time to look at bee-utiful quilts! So how about it?? Anyone have a picture to share?

You've been buzzzzzzzzy!!! Hubbs used to have hives...we had the best honey!!! I collect little stuffed bees for him...he even thinks they are sweet!! hahahaha I don't have any bee quilts, but that's a good idea!!!!

SCLady is a Bee lady.. She likes the bee theme.. Give her a holler...

I made a table cover for my DD's wedding shower. Her hostesses asked if I had anything bee related.

I had fun making the quilt. They even gave out locally grown honey in the cutest bottles for shower favors.

What a cute quilt & a wonderful theme for her shower. We have some owl boxes that we built & hung this spring & a swarm of bees has inhabited one of the boxes.

Nancy, we raised bees many, many years ago too. It was a fun hobby for many years.

Sorry, No Bee quilts as of yet, can tell you where to get some Bee-uafull charms of honey bee...that's Thearica. Yes, I'm a certified SC State Honey Bee keeper. Good luck with your girls and enjoy them...How cold of winters do you have?

Bees Knees

Goodness, This is certainly an awesome quilt of a bee!

I (cough, cough) made three of them disappear today. Building in my sidelights today and with one person allergic to them in the house, not gonna happen at the front door.

Our winters are very cold here, it is one of the reasons I decided to use a top bar hive-- heat retention and ease of insulation. In a good year we get LOTS of snow which is the world's best insulator, but every now and then we have a winter like this past one, where we get very little snow, so we have to insulate the hives ourselves.

How many hives do you have?

I've always liked the Honeybee block - easy piecing and easy (sort of) applique.

I made this table runner for a friend who sells honey with her husband at Farmers' Markets. Thought it would dress up their table.

I wanted an avatar that would represent my moniker on this board and elsewhere so I made this 15 inch square WH. The bee is in turquoise because its my favorite color and the red is to make her stand out.

Very pretty stm 1804 and Quiltbea! Quiltbea, I never noticed your bee was holding a needle and thread--very cute! What are the wings? Sheer fabric or close quilting?

Kay-lin, I like that block too. I also thought of making an applique bee skep that would look like the ones she has as illustrations in the left hand sidebar. Maybe alternating a block of an appliqued skep with the bee block.

stm 1804, did you design the table runner or was that a pattern you found? Is it paper pieced?

The green and dark red flowers are paper pieced and from Carol Doak's book. The small dark red flowers are paper pieced but I made them up and the hives are just strip pieced. Although the table runner wasn't from a pattern, I did see the idea for the hives somewhere! I think in the original idea - which I couldn't find when I went searching!! - there were hive blocks then vine and flower applique on the borders. It probably had appliqued bees, too, but I just used buttons.

Grishko.....The wings of my bee are from an old piece of net curtain, doubled to have more substance.
