Is anyone else doing this? I have a 100 gallon fish tank in my basement (read family room ) and I just thought this would look adorable hanging down there. So it is my plan to learn to machine applique while working on this quilt.
Here is fish #1. Cute little bugger. I am not awesome at this, but I can see significant improvement from the first zig zag to the last, so I am pleased. I also can see improvement from the first bit of ironing on to the rest. All in all, certainly not a perfect block but I am pretty happy with it.
Oh, and how cute is that background with the little circles (bubbles). I am hoping to have that be the only thing purchased for this.
Nice fish Katie, Can't see any mistakes or imperfections, keep up the good work. DH wants to know where my fish is. I mentioned that I might make them at the beginning of the month. He looked at them and thought they were cute.
It's your fish, Marlene, he can swim whatever way you want him to. The block finished at 12". I cut mine at 13 and will trim down - just to make sure everything works out right. You should post a picture of your finished fishy.
Kathy, it's at fat cat patterns. Did you find it? The link bluesnail posted should take you right to it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: katiemedarlin,
I printed that pattern and may try it. At the moment I am thinking of doing it as an aquarium-not quite worked out details but may use a big piece of fabric to applique the fishes on and then add other aquarium stuff and frame that one piece of fabric. Still thinking about it.
Your fish looks great. Love the background fabric. Karen

Karen, I'm impressed with your thought process. An aquarium hanging with seaweed and a castle would look so cool. Great idea. Can't wait to see what that is going to be like.
Katie- I think your fish is so cute. Great job. Now that your fish is done, maybe others will do it too. Patty, you know you were sad that you did not do the funky chicken. So, are you going to take the challege??? LOL Sue

Lynne...gettin me interested here! I followed the Funky Chickens BOM with Bluesnail last year and thought they were all adoreable. This is not my typical style but I am into expanding myself these days! I have downloaded the fishies pattern...we'll see!
EBGQ, I was originally thinking all fish but like your idea better. Hmmm that gives more to think about. . . . I really like bright fabrics and fun patterns-we'll see where this leads.

Oh yeah!!! I'm glad others will be doing these also. Can't wait to see all of yours. I followed the funky chickens and was so sorry I didn't do them. Then I saw the fish, and thought that maybe it worked out cause I love fish. So I'm doing these!
I was sorry I didn't do the chicken too. I love your fish katie - maybe I will do this one too. Not sure what I would do with it afterwards. Wonder what my cats would think of these fish. LOL

I love fatcat patterns. I used the race car pattern for #2 and #3 grandsons quilt. It turned out nice. Think I'll try the fish. Lynn, you did a great job and all from your stash. Right on girl.

I have my background fabric and I wanted to work on the fish this weekend, but I don't have any more wonder under. Today I'm going to make a trip to LQS and pick some up. But I will be making these fish. Pat
WOW! Isn't that yummy! How different it looks from your's, Lynne! And I love your's, too! It is quite fun to see what everyone does with these little fishies.
Ok I couldn't stand it one more minute. I had to get the pattern. Can't say ill be doing it tomorrow but I can't pass up a freeby. Yes Lois I still have my chickens sitting in their coop. Lol! I mean we'll anyway. Just finishing up a baby quilt for this weekend. I am really not a procrastinator but, I'm cutting this one close. If I can stay off this board I'd be ok.
thanx everyone for the compliments, perhaps the next time I will remember to reverse the pattern - prouder of the fact that I was able to post a picture rather than finishing a block
ok, gotta do this block, they are darling! Love your Katiemedarlin, and Marlene, yours looks great too! I like them facing different directions. Marlene, did you hand blanket stitch yours? I am thinking of doing mine that way.

Well I tried to click on the block of the month, and my computer says the site crashes. I can see the completed blocks, but can't open the instructions or the first block to save it...poohy.
I was with Patty J to make our doll quilts today . She showed me the pattern for the fish and I think this will be a great project for her this year. She should have hers done by the end of the month. LOL Sue

Picture was too big and I lost my post. Sue and I had a great time making this fish today. All the fabric in the fish is from the scrap bin. The background fabric for the fish came from Sister Sues' stash. I love it. Is it Feb. 1st. yet???? Can't wait get the next pattern. Pat
Patty, you did what I was thinking, put a plastic eye on the fish, love it. I machine stitched the blanket stitch, This fish looked like it is the hardest one in the bunch. I am using stash so all of them will be different, maybe a little wonky when I get close to the end
