I'm sure it could be made with a jelly roll set. Just a case of alternating the background fabric with your jelly roll cuts.

Looks like fun.

Wow!!!! Another quilt pattern that is rare.

I did a little further snooping and found that the quilt is 53 x 72" finished. And the photos of the kits you used to be able to buy had Fat Quarters shown as the fabrics. Soooooo maybe it uses more than the jelly rolls.

Maybe you can find the magazine somewhere????

mandy, I have that magazine and have made that quilt for a gift...it has been a while ago,but I'm pretty sure the strips were wider than a jellyroll...it did go together easy though and I'm sure could be adapted for a jellyroll, you'd just use more blocks. If you don't need the pattern quicker than 2 weeks or so I could dig through my bookcases for you...I really need to stop collecting magazines...lol

If i have figured it out right by the dimentions of the quilt you would need 5" squares and 5" x 10" rectangles. 3" sashing and borders.

I love quilts (pictures) like this, because it reminds me how easy some quilts are and to me they are just as beautiful as the complicated blocks and patterns.

You can easily adapt one like this to any size rectagles and squares with a tiny bit of math skills. And that is about how much I have! LOL

Oh and I love quilts with all that white also! They just POP for me.

your welcome Smile and I'm thinking I'll make another one too...I won some ugly FQ's at the Branson retreat and I'm thinking I could turn them into something pretty with this pattern Smile

Not a lot in the magazine May...there's a couple quilt patterns that are nice, pave the way included, the other is a snowball & 9 patch combo. I sometimes find magazines on Ebay Smile

Even though this pattern goes together fairly quick, I think next time I may experiment and cut my FQ's into 7" strips, and my bacground into 4" strips, sew together then cut into the 4" segments, even quicker I hope!

Stripping should make it go faster as changing the sizes of the pieces should. I'm going to try and arrive at a great charity size that will fit "Tot To Senior" and work uop fast but

I'm thinking of using up tons of scraps to make these "fast & furiou"...it is such an adaptable pattern. I was looking at the measurements Pause4 posted above of the finished quilt trying to figure that out(just quickly in my head)...somethinng not computing there so I'll have to try harder...

i was thnking just figure out what width of fabric you have and decide on your own lengths and add squares..

Jelly Roll (2 1/2") - i think would be 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" with a 2 1/2" square.. then a 2" sashing.. not sure how many you would need tho..

you could even vary the width and length of the quilt how you want it..

i like where the squares and the background are all the same fabric.. it makes the blocks/bricks look like they are raised/floating..

i like to breakdown how a pattern is made or my designs to make them simple to make and easy to understand the cutting and assembly.. for myself i rarely go by odd sizes, just modify them to easy cut and stitch sizes.. after all they are my quilts, how i want them, even if they have mistakes by others and my standards..

if for others i go by actual patterns tho, if swapping..

They say, 'if five people witness an accident you will get five different versions of what happened". Well, I see that quilt put together differently.

The only squares I see are at the edges of the rows. All the rest of the row is composed of strips of light or dark fabric.

Yep, I saw it was composed of 9 patch blocks with sashing. But I thought, why do all that when you get the same effect by sewing the rows as strips.

We make 1600" quilts by sewing rows of strips together, kinda the same thing.

I've been mulling this over to make as easy and as fast as possible for me with little waste. I was thinking if I took a fat quarter and cut it to a 7 x 20 width, then sewed a background strip of 4" x 20 along the length of it, that should give me a piece 20 x 10 1/2". I should be able to cut 5 blocks 4 x 10 1/2". If you used a variety of fat quarters and switched them around, sewed them into 10 1/2" strips, then joined those strips with 3" sashing of the background fabric you'd be done! In my mind anyway!
Gonna give it a try I think.
Joan

Quiltinana2: Why not cut your colored strips at 6" instead of 7", that way you'd get three strips from one FQ. I know, the FQ may not be square. But it might be worth the try.

If you cut a 7" rectangle it will end up being 6 1/2" finished. A 4" sq will finish at 3 1/2". Adding a 3" strip, which finishes up at 2 1/2", will leave you a little short. The 3 1/2" sq plus the 2 1/2" strip is only 6". Your rectangle is 6 1/2". It appears the square and the strip equal the size of the rectangle. I'd say your strip needs to be 3 1/2" cut = 3" finished.

Moda Fabrics has a dessert roll which is 5 inches wide. That might work. I've seen them in a few shops, but can't remember which ones.
