Do you not have anything in your stash to make a binding out of? I only made one using their fabric, and about 6 using my own, so I think I did some of each.

quiltnanny ...just use regular binding put on by your machine.
1.Sew it to the front, wrap to the back
2.Use a little white Elmers school glue and your iron to glue it in place.
3. Stitch in the Ditch on the front side and you will have a secure binding and it will look super.

Try it....

It's ok not to bring the backing forward as the binding.. But what I do is trim the front of the quilt and the batting first then trim the backing to 1 inch out that way it's much easier to fold to the front and machine stitch it as the binding. Other wise bias tape will work just fine too. Smile

Sew many Quilts sew little time!
I Love to see the smiles that our quilts give every time we give one away. When we give a quilt to another it's also our love inside each one.

When I have made quilts for Quilts for Kids, I lay the top and batting in a far corner of the backing fabric when layering. I have almost always had enough left over backing fabric for
2 1/4" binding. I did mess up one time. I had a good chunk of backing fabric, but it was cut so crooked, I thought I would square it up. Bad idea! I had to add to the binding - I could argue that it was a design decision, but it was more out of desperation! I don't worry if the binding is cut exactly on the straight of grain or not as it still does fine as binding. I hand stitch the binding to the back with a larger than normal stitch, then ziz zag the binding down just for a stronger hold. I need to try May's way one of these days! Sounds quicker! (I do like to hand sew binding, though.)

Glad I saw this thread - I have a charity quilt from my guild that I brought home to do the binding on - they wanted it brought to the front. Thanks for the tip on trimming it to 1" - any tips for the corners to miter???

Trish212 - may I suggest you re-post this question as a new topic? Quilts for Kids is an organization that provides quilts to children in hospitals. You can order a kit or make one from your own stash. The questions in this post were about the kits and how to bind them. I have seen examples of burp cloths on this board (EveynB has done a bunch of great ones) and someone might be able to give you some information and answer your question!
Thanks,
Susan

Thank you, Susan. I'll delete my message.

Once I get a little more confidence in quilting, I'd love to be a part of this organization. What a talent to share with others.
