Marie and I went to the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford today and made a presentation. There were 4 children in the cottage so we took 4 quilts. Upon entering the cottage we found one little girl who had already received a quilt from all of you. She went to her bedroom and brought her quilt out and it was in immaculate condition...and we gave her this quilt in Feb 2007! I told her she had made me very happy to see that she had taken such good care of her quilt.

She wanted me to take a photo of her so you could see that she had indeed taken good care of it...Privacy laws wont allow her face to be shown but there is a beaming blonde headed little girl beneath the quilt.. Big Grin

There were 2 more beautiful little girls and 1 sweet young man in the cottage. You should have seen those beaming faces.. Big Grin

I was standing near the door when we finished and the youngest little girl came towards me and when she got to me she raised her arms up to hug me. That was one of the sweetest hugs I have had in a while! Once she hugged me the others had to take their turns getting and giving hugs...These children are so precious!

There were 2 other children we were ready for but they had been dismissed to other families before we went today. That is joyous for the children...I just wished we had known they were leaving so we could have gone earlier and given them a quilt.

Again, the photo is of the children hiding their faces...and the beaming little blonde wanted to be in this photo too... Big Grin

Even without being able to see their faces you can tell that these quilts have made them very happy. And I can just imagine what it does for you and Marie to be able to hand these out!

What wonderful quilts and the pictures send shivers down by spine. Glad to know they have something to keep them cosy and warm at night.

Quiltaholic....In that first picture, I CAN see the face of the little person in the background. I'm sure a relative could make out who it was in a minute.
You might want to change or delete the picture.

Thanks for the alert quiltbea...I had not even seen the other little girls face. I cropped the photo so it is a little one sided now but you can still see the quilt with the little girl under it.. Smile

I want to say thank you again to all the many ladies on this board that send in blocks, fabric, quilt tops, and finished quilts for this ongoing project.

We almost have enough ready to go for another presentation. We are shooting for right after first of the year. Big Grin

Omma...Ladies from this board have made these quilts possible...I get blocks donated, quilt tops donated and I put these together and quilt them..then Marie binds them and we add labels...And some have sent finished quilts for us to give.

The children in this cottage were 2 and 3 year olds...There are around 70 children total who live here. Some do not have family at all...and some have been taken from abusive homes, drug homes...etc....Some are reunited with their parents later if the parents get their lives cleaned up and some are never reunited. They do get adopted from time to time. If they are never adopted, they live here until they turn 18 and then they live in transition cottages for a year or so to teach them how to live on their own.
