... I'mnot much for this fabric like this, but it's comimng out okay - was in a swap at guild for strips ... I decided to have it quilted instead of doing it myself .. so should have it back next week. I'm questioning a backing color/s ..This message has been edited. Very pretty — that range of blues and the pinks/purples just says spring! "Never be afraid to try anything new. Remember, amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built the Titanic." Unknown.

Love it, Batiks are my favorite. Hancocks has really wide batik fabric designed for backs.

Love it! Find it interesting you angled the seams instead of just sewing them together, end to end. Neat variation... Chris

Very pretty... I like it! Like the variety of colors and it's bright and cheery.

● ● ● Very pretty Sandie. How would you feel about cutting a few vertical strips out and flipping them top to bottom. ▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲ Life without quilting is not an option! • • • • • MY Photos • • • • • • ENJOY! Somewhere the last couple of days I've seen a jelly roll quilt that was in mostly pinks. They squared it up and then while it was still folded, they cut a strip off the side, and then another narrower strip. A contrasting color (in this case white) was sewn to the narrow strip. The strip was then flipped and resewn to the big piece and the bigger strip. It was neat. This isn't the best job, but it should give you the idea of what I'm talking about and the white strips wouldn't be this wide, they'd be the same width as the jelly roll you're using. This message has been edited. Isn't it fun when it starts looking like something you'll be happy with? I liked it before, and the addition of blacks sound even better. Can't wait to see your progress. This message has been edited. Last edited by: wildcatmom, ~karen

● ● ● Looking good. You know, if you go with skinnier strips you may have enough, but I'm sure you'd prefer to go shopping. ▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲▼▲ Life without quilting is not an option! • • • • • MY Photos • • • • • • ENJOY! I LOVE the black stripes in it!! It really sets off the batiks bright colors. Now I may have to do one of these. I have 2 jelly rolls of batiks, one that Talia sent to me, and one I bought to match it. Hmmmm, wonder if I could get a king size out of that?
|
...am I that obviious?? Tisme .. it takes some finagling tog et a big quilt .. it gets wider but not longer because you keep folding it ... some math thing .. this is now the layout ... i think hahahha see those clever tags, those were a gift from Fleur55 to our charity group - shemade each of us a set .. she is such a sweetheart, you guys are g oing to love her and I'm so sorry I'm mnissing PA .. BTW grandson (10) stood in front of it with his hands behind him, like thejudge, and surveyed the layout, and said yes, it needs the black strips ... so what could i do?This message has been edited. Looking really good, Sandie.
|
tisme: King size quilt is about 110" sq. Doing just general math, that would be about 3 strips 40" wide to go across. At 2 1/2" long that would be about 55 strips. You'd need about twice what you have now plus a few. Or about 165 strips.

I'm not really a huge fan of the 1600/jelly roll race quilts, but these variations are changing my opinion! Looking good Sandie!
|
Ooh, that looks great! Was it hard to get cuts that missed your strip joints? For those wanting to make a bigger quilt... To make it longer, could you do 2 separate 40 strip sets and join them on the short ends? Widen with the slashes for the black strips. This message has been edited. Two thumbs up Sandie.....love it!!!! If life hands you scraps make quilts

Quilter is lined up for tomorrow .. so Imust get busy ... andof course I had to change my backing .. wait til you see the one I'm going to do - couldn't find any wides and the one I have is not right ..by the ti me I am doing the bindng this quiltis gonna own me! ...Wildcat mom ... think I'd worry about a few strip joints ?? ... hit or miss ... just laid the ruler straight and whacked. I got a few that are close but that justs add to the 'drama' right?? LOL ... Tomorrow at friendship group I will cut and sew the backing .. and it's a fun piece of fabric /// if you know your fabrics .. it's an older Robert Kaufman, Bohemian Rhapsody D# 6495. I had it saved for a special project = guess this it Better lighting tomorrow and I will get some pics .. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. I'll be interested in hearing what the quilt's final dimensions are...don't forget to record what/why you did...even if you were flying by the seat of your pants. I may copy you. I haven't done a jellyroll race quilt yet. This message has been edited. Last edited by: wildcatmom, ~karen

Sandie, that's turing into an awesome quilt. I loved it before you cut it up and added the black strips & now I love it even more. Batiks are always so pretty in EVERYTHING. Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.

The black strips set it off perfectly. I may dig out my jelly roll UFO, and see about finishing it just to see how I can cut it up and change it.
|
... once you start whacking all kinds of ideas come along .. i alrady have a couple more working!!! Have fun .. post pics .. I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org

I admit to not being a big fan of the 1600" quilt but I wanted to try it so I made a doll quilt. As I joined the strips I added a square with 1/4" of black on each side between some of the strips. When I finished the strips I added 1/4" of black along them. Then cut and joined the strips per the pattern. I liked that effect so well, I made fabric for a purse using the same idea. All we need is a little spark to get the imagination going, don't you think? Sounds as if City/Sandie has done that for a few folks.
|
...Paus that doll quilt was so cute ,, isn't it fun when you do soemthing different? Everyone at friendhsip group today LOVED my 'top' I cut 5" strips for top and bottom borders, and will have a single element from the quilt pattern done across them .. in turquoise thread .. the back is so cool .. one of the gals thought had done allthis curving piecing to get it like it is ...wait til yo see it .. I get it back NEXT thursday. The top finished out at 60"x71'.. big enough to snuggle on the couch, don't ya think? I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Sandie - did you get your picture saved? If not, hover over the picture and right click your mouse - then choose save as and you can then save it to wherever you'd like on your computer. I do that on a regular basis when there is a picture I want to go back to.

It's morning! (In Ohio, at least!!) Where is the picture? I just can't wait!!!! I agree with everyone - I really like your layout. I, too, have not been a fan of the 1600 but with the black strips it is just stunning! Susan

I don't have the binding sewn down, and may not get to it until I go to Coconuts on Sunday ...so here is the border and I have turned the binding .. ...here is the quilt front - that's my Easy Spirited feet sticking out! The binding kind of hides the side borders, they are the same sice as the sashing strips, I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me. Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org ![]()

...and this is the back ... general consensus today was that it looks like 2 quilts and i shoul dnot send it away but keep it for the quilt show ...PS ... that's my dog Lilly there by the neighbors house ... she is so sweet and so chubby.
