Speaking of birds, here is my version of the Wild Bird pattern in the fall issue of Quilts and More. I think it is kinda cute.

I reduced the pattern by 30% to have it match the other bird on the board.

Cute! I like these little birdies best with wings like you did. Although still cute, they look n*kkid without wings, lol!

So .. you don't flip that switch very often, heh? Wink

Thanx, Everyone. He is cute, he was easy, very easy and fun to try.

Drema: rofl, thank you!!!!!

DG: You're absolutely right, that switch stays on just about allllll the time. It's in the computer room. lolllll

As usual I changed how he was put together, can't seem to get away from that changing things personality, you know.

The pattern calls for the body and the wings to be sewn and leaving an opening, stuffed and then sew the opening closed.

I chose to sew the pieces together completely, made a slit on the backside of the wings and in a spot under one of the wings for the body and then turned/stuffed them. Stitched the slits closed and then attached the wings, hiding the slit in the body. Worked wonderfully.

Ohhhh, I also kind of cheated on the wings. I used a high loft batting and sewed the batting and fabrics together rather than actually stuffing the wings. Worked good also.

Paus - sounds like you made some great changes to the pattern. I like the music fabric you used for your 'Songbird'.

Very sweet Paus. Wink

An ornament is what I though too. Especially with the elegant holiday fabric choices.

....My bird is waiting to get finished,
think I'll follow your easy instructions, Paus.

Very smart of you to change the pattern. Makes a much nicer edge. Good job!! But I really do like the beaded hanger!! You need to keep that in the design Paus!!!

lollllll Chris, he sings....Hi ho, hi ho, It's off to work I go. lollllll

Thanks again, All. I hope those that like him can find the magazine and will try him. The full size bird appears to be about 9". I like him this size.

Ohhhhh one more tip about him. Making the beak was a little bit of a challenge, so I found that if I continued sewing the line off the fabric and then started from the edge in the other direction, it worked just perfectly. Three unsews was enough to convince me there had to be a better way. Maybe on the larger bird continuous sewing works but for the little guy is was a very tight fit.

thanks for all the great tips. I plan to make one and embellish it like a dotee doll. I think your idea about reducing the size will be better for me, too.

Thanks Paus-4-quilts for your easier instructions for the song bird.
While at Sams Club, today, I bought the Quilts and More Magazine. First time I had heard of this magazine.

What a cute bird! I can see a whole tree decorated with them. And to decorate packages is a good idea too.
Thanks Paus for all the suggestions & tips. I like the smaller size for ornaments. You did good! Big Grin
