Anybody have any patterns for 50/60s maternity Clothes?

Let me tell you that I could not get rid of those patterns fast enough, did not want to see them again or use them again or wear them again after having my 4th baby in 10 years.

Oh...remember sizes have changed a couple of times since then. So a 12 then is more like a 6 or 8 now. Be sure to check measurements before cutting...

My MIL made all my maternity dresses in 1968, but she never used a pattern. She just looked at a Sears catalog and made anything she liked, even my wedding dress. She was so talented!

Just for fun I googled "retro maternity patterns". I was enjoying looking at some of the clothes I Wore until I went to a site that showed "retro 1990's patterns"! If the 90's are retro the 50's are prehistoric!

I had my 1st in 1969 and my next in 1980. Tossed the patterns when I retired three years ago. Can't afford a baby on Social Security! LOL

They are so teeney weeny!!! Babies must have only been 4 pounds then from the look of the patterns!!! The ladies must have only gained 10 pounds!!!!!

Unlike now, pregnant women were not allowed to gain a lot of weight. I gained 16 pounds with my first one and only 9 with my second. #1 DS weighed in at 8# 15oz. #2 DS came in at 8# 6 oz...don't let the patterns fool ya.

Y'all are funny! EvelynB especially! Reminds me of the announcement I made at dinner one night with DH, BIL, and SIL. Told them I was "expecting." SIL grinned because she knew what my annoucement was. BIL cut his eyes at me. When DH paused, I think he had a chip in his hand (Mexican restaurant). That's when I told him I was expecting delivery of a "new" Featherweight. Snicker

Oh I had to laugh when I read this!

Years later I saw an old rerun of McMullen & Wife and Susan St James was wearing a mini maternity dress and she looked as wide as she did tall. What got me was that I had looked the same way when I had DD#1 in 1970!!! Gained 12# as she was an A*r*m*y brat and they wanted you to keep your weight down to prevent complications.

Also remember what I thought were the horrible things my mom wore when she had by baby sister in 1957.. Chris

Those patterns remind me of Mad Men, when Betty Draper was expecting Eugene.

I remember "peasant" tops from the 70's. My friend's mom thought they looked like maternity tops, and didn't want my friend to wear them for fear someone would think the wrong thing.

Oh my gosh! I had the middle row - far right pattern and used it a lot! LOL That brins back memories! If I remember correctly I made it in chocolate brown corduroy and one set in red......

Did you ladies see the printed price on the patterns??? 50 cents, wow!!!!
