Extra Storage for FQ's Sign In/Join

While babysitting yesterday, we went into the children's bedroom and I noticed this hanging mesh column that was presently unused which was originally for socks, tee shirts etc. Instantly I thought.."what a great place to have extra places to store BY COLOR some fat quarters." Has anyone done this? It fastens with a velcro strap.

OH! Auntie Reba... I thought maybe you were asking if anyone had any extra storage for YOUR fat quarters. Big Grin I could certainly make some extra room, you know. Wave Wink

LOL - you may get a lot of offers for extra storage if that's the case!

My mother would have loved that mesh bag...she always said her storage space would increase if she could just hang things from the ceiling (or the sky). Back then, she was kidding, but now they've thought of everything!

I have to keep my FQ's stored with the "general population" of fabric or I'll forget I have them. As long as I can fold a little piece of fabric with the edge looking like a piece of yardage, I keep it in the right color spot with the big pieces. If I come across the FQ while auditioning & am disappointed that there isn't enough of it, usually another fabric just north or south of it in the stack will work, too.

Toldja I got all A's on that quilter test the other day! Cool

Actually, I'm naturally DIS-organized, so to make up for that, I force myself to organize everything, or I'd never find anything! Frown

Hate to admit it, but "born organized" people are really onto something... I don't miss the time I used to spend hunting for things. Although every now & then, I make sure something strays, so I don't forget how to search. Razz

My fabric gets organized and then I don't take the time to put the new in with the old, or I run out of room. I've had to redo my closet a couple of times to make room for more stash. I did buy some plastic shoe boxes and a couple of baskets for storage and they are sitting in my sewing room, just haven't taken the time to put anything in them yet. I'm really thinking about putting some of my fat quarters or nickel squares in the plastic boxes.

hmmmm...I have hardly any FQ's Confused ...and I have an enormous stash. I have either 1/2 yds, or the amount needed for a project in marked boxes. The little bits are mostly cut into sizes and 3 bins for scraps. Maybe that's because I buy 99% on line??? I haven't bought a FQ in ages...maybe because I can get a larger amount for the same price?? hmmmm.

I would think that fabric would weigh it down to much!
I do have a sweater or purse, closet, fabric organizer hanging from a wood bar, that holds fat quarters..it is made of hvy fabric, so it doesnt drag it down to much...

my grandsons use one of those for their stuffed animals...

I keep yardage (1/2 yd and up) in two wardrobes and all the FQ's end up in see through bins stacked on top of one another by color. You know the one I want is ALWAYS on the bottom. I swear they sit in those bins and multiply...I haven't bought any in ages and I try to use from those first and they are still growing.

One of the reasons I opted to refold my FQs and store them with the larger pieces is so they don't get forgotten or lost. They seem a little lost amongst the bigger bolts but I can see them when I'm searching. I never have been one to want/need to look in several places to find similar items.

I have my FQs and the odd pieces from scrap bags in white shoe cubbies that have 18? slots. I have one for "regular" and one for Batiks.
