All year I've been saying I'm going to clean out everything that doesn't fit &/or I will never wear again & give it to Goodwill. So far I haven't done it but you may have just given me the inspiration that I need. Smile

.... needing to go shopping really is DARN for me, I hate clothes shopping ... however .. one of my lifelong favorite TRUISMS is:
"I can't change things, but I can change how I feel about them" ..
So ....... I like SHOPPING
try again: I really like shopping,

I joined you in cleaning things out this year...have a tiny house so every season I have to swap clothes out to store in plastic bins in my not-so-nice-damp-basement and was even starting to pile things on top of the bins because they didn't fit inside!

When I brought winter stuff up last month I vowed that if I didn't really like it or if it didn't fit or if I hadn't worn in it a couple of years and it wasn't going in my closet "this time" then it was going out. Was hard to do, felt wasteful and sad about some of the things given to me as gifts but I kept everything I thought I might cut up for sewing and all of the buttons off of everything else. All of the knit stuff and anything left over went to the thrift shop so someone else might get use out of it.

Guess what?? I haven't missed ANY of it! There are those usual things I always wear that are still in my closet and drawers but they actually fit in there now with all of the other stuff gone.

Good job City/Sandie! Now you can buy those certain things that you really need that will fit and you will like at this point in your life!

I have been doing that too...I have shirts in my closets that are a good 20 years old and the dresses...you should see the piles on my guest room bed...Good news one of our stores has a Coupon day 2 x a year ..bring in an item to donate and you get coupons for 15 to 20 % off including cosmetics and stuff that is never on sale...so I keep a pile going always to get Clique at a discount...but this year the Resource Centers will get huge donations.

Way to go!!!

I've started thinking along the same line. I have a double row of rods on one side of my walk in closet and the lower one has 2/3 of it with skirts. Can't tell you the last time I wore one of them. The area above that is blouses that fit pretty much in the same catagory. Across from them is half a row of dresses and i have worn two of them in the last two yhears or so. Only difference is that once I get thru these clothes, I won't be doing any shopping. I will revel in the openness of it all and then probably start stacking fabric in the open areas... Chris

.... once I retired ... man that wardrobe was gone = or so I thought .. I still had way too much of it because I could use it for other occassions, and nicer every day.. and then the doc changed my meds ... oh dear .. so even the could use stuff got too small - and then I had to face facts: I got too big.
Being honest here - I meant to store it all for one more year ... and then I asked myself "Really?" You know the t one of voice on that one.
Do you really want to wear all that old stuff again? Nope.
One of my friendship groups helps a thrift shop/charity that really helps others - so some gals are gonna have new clothes. And THAT makes me happy.
But NO QUILTING FABRIC IN THE WHOLE LOT .. KEEPING 'ON TOPIC' HERE ...

I have been doing the same thing because I am losing weight (YEA!!!!!!!). Have been trying for years and for some reason it is really clicking now and I am really in to it.

I am getting rid of all my big clothes now have go out and buy smaller stuff!! Still have a very long way to go, but it sure is fun watching the sizes go down.

I also had a ton of clothes that I have had for years that were too small for me but I never got rid of. Now I am wearing those till I can get out for some new ones.

I was in the middle of doing the exact same thing...had about half my closet sorted. A BFF called and she was cleaning closets would I please come take a couple of bags of clothes off her hands...take out what I could use...then pass them on.

Now I have more than I started with! She's been out of work about 4 years now...took some shots for her arthritis and gained waaay too much weight. (Now she's off the shots but has she lost a single ounce? Nooooo.) But her gain...is my gain. Wink

The only thing I keep in different sizes are jeans,Tshirts, sweatshirts and plaid shirts. I might wear out the plaids before I can use them to quilt with!!! My closets are full of FABRIC!!! I must clean them out so my few clothes will fit in there!!! i used to be such a clothes horse...now it's quilts. But soon all I'll have to wear is a quilt to the grocery store...so I'd better start working on that I guess. UGH.

I did that several years ago when I finally admitted to myself I was never going to be a size 4 again Frown I went through the entire closet and sent boxes and boxes of clothes to my sister and her step-daughter...took me almost two months to get it done. Unfortunately, I think I need to do it again, though not as bad this time around. I'm trying to make do until my planned retirement in a year but if I have to work longer than that then I deserve new clothes!!

Way to go Sandie & everyone else who has done this! Been a couple of years since I have done that & it really needs to be done again. I keep wearing/washing & wearing again the same favorite duds, I should just box up everything else & be done with it. I have a dress in my closet I have not worn since 1969. I kid you not.

I have a tote of them in my attic. Came in handy 2 times, when DD was in HS for a show and our historical society had a thru the years fashion show. Someone had a raccoon coat even! I *ahem* didn't seem to fit into the clothes so had a different model for them.
